Game #1 World Series; A marquee matchup, but little respect for the Nats!

The Washington Nationals went into the morning of May 24th with a 0.1% chance of making the postseason. They defied the odds as the Nats earned a Wild Card berth, and they have found themselves as underdogs during each series in the postseason in the NLDS against the Dodgers, and the NLCS against the Cardinals. From 501 Crawford Street to 3570 S. Las Vegas Boulevard, the Nats are given little chance of winning this World Series against the Houston Astros. Is it a lack of respect? It is what it is. You are here to play the games so prove the doubters wrong. The Nationals are on an 18-3 run and are 8-2 in the postseason while the Astros are 7-4 in the postseason. Since May 24th and through today, the Nationals have won 82 games and the Astros have won 81. If you throw out the first 50 games of the season, the Nationals have been a slightly better team than the Astros, but that does not matter to those who project the winner and loser in this World Series. On top of that, the 3-time Cy Young winner Max Scherzer was asked questions as if he is some journeyman placeholder who has to pitch opposite of the Astros’ Gerrit Cole in this Game 1. “Watch Parties” and more for the World Series on the road!

The Washington Nationals got permission from MLB to host “Watch Parties” at Nationals Park, and it is FREE! There will also be several bars and restaurants in the Navy Yard hosting their own “indoor” events. Of course there  are other establishments in the DMV hoping to take advantage of the World Series, and some are planning to bring in special guests. As we have more information, we will pass it on. Natan Bash is making a 12-hour pilgrimage from one Holy Land to another (Nats Park)!

Natan Bash watching his favorite team during a trip to the United States

There will be Nationals fans from literally all over the United States descending on Nationals Park for the World Series. One young Nats fan is flying over 12-hours from Israel on a sports pilgrimage that is as spiritual as it is a calling. This fan is Natan Bash, and he has been a devoted Nats fan since 2005 when he was just 7 years old. His father is a Washingtonian who relocated to Israel in 1996, and the Nats became their adopted team since the time the Expos relocated to Washington. He is one of our most devoted Nats fans and readers. Bash goes to sleep early and sets his alarm at 2AM local time when the Nats are playing in Nationals Park and the Eastern time zone with a first pitch at 7:05 PM. It is usually 5AM when the game ends and Bash gets a little more sleep before duty calls. Continue reading

The preparation for the Nats first World Series!

Will the Nats be playing against the Houston Astros or the New York Yankees?

With the Washington Nationals on their way to their first World Series, how do they prep to get ready for this series when they do not even know who they will be playing. They will have a team practice on Friday.  The Nationals have a week off from playing actual games, and they can re-seed their World Series rotation as well as give players like Victor Robles the chance to rest his hamstring even more, and this will be the longest time-off that Trea Turner will have had and maybe that will the two fingers he broke back in the first week of the season. Stephen Strasburg can take his time in between starts after throwing a season’s high 117 pitches in his NLCS start. What the Nats have to make sure is that this extra time-off does not take away from their momentum they built up in the NLCS.

The Nats are World Series bound with a sweep of the Cardinals!

In the Wild Card era, there have only been seven teams now who have swept an LCS (league championship series). The Atlanta Braves were the first to do it 1995, and you know what they did that year in the World Series. The Nats did it today with a 7-4 win to sweep the Cardinals.

Game #4 NLCS Patrick Corbin has the mound tonight!

Photo by Andrew Lang for TalkNats

After the NLDS, Nationals manager Dave Martinez was able to do some reseeding of his rotation for the NLCS after game one with Anibal Sanchez. They made a decision to push Corbin back to game four on extra rest and have him available early in the series for a LOOGY spot, and Corbin shined in his appearance to get lefty Kolten Wong out. Now Corbin takes the mound in arguably one of the most important games of his career. Can this lefty match his fellow starters who all notched zero earned runs in this NLCS? Can he match Sanchez and Scherzer and put up a no-hitter for at least six innings? All Martinez wants is to go 1-0 today. That is a tall order, but certainly doable.  Continue reading

Stephen Strasburg’s gem takes Nats starters to 25 2/3 scoreless! Nats up 3-0!

This advertised pitcher’s duel became one-sided as the Nats smashed Jack Flaherty and knocked him out at the 4.0 inning mark with 4 earned runs, and Stephen Strasburg went 7.0 innings on 117 pitches of baseball with no earned runs, no walks, and 12 strikeouts. Stras lowered his postseason career ERA to 1.10. The Nats starters have now thrown 25 2/3 consecutive innings of no earned run baseball which is the second longest streak since 1905. More importantly, the Washington Nationals won 8-1 to take a 3-0 lead in this best-of-seven series, and the Nats are now one win from advancing to the final round in baseball’s season. Each game going forward is an elimination game for the Cardinals.  Continue reading

Game #3 NLCS The heavyweight matchup of Flaherty vs. Strasburg; Robles is back!

Photo courtesy of Andrew Ross for TalkNats

Since the NLDS games were decided on Wednesday, we have known that this game would matchup two of the hottest NL pitchers in Stephen Strasburg and the righty Jack Flaherty. Tonight of course is the first home game in the Nats history for an NLCS game. Back in the lineup for the Washington Nationals is centerfielder Victor Robles. Moves like adding Robles back when Michael Taylor had done well offensively is the type of move that could work great or backfire. We will see how Nats manager Dave Martinez does on that move while also playing Ryan Zimmerman against a tough righty. On the other side, Cardinals manager Mike Shildt just downgraded his overall defense to add Jose Martinez to his lineup, but he kept the struggling part of the top of his lineup the same and much to the dismay of Cardinals fans. Nats fans can commiserate with their lineup experiences from the 2017 NLDS. Continue reading

You’ve been here all year while others jump on the Nats bandwagon! Welcome!

Some fans have been tried and true all year like Kelly Collis of the The Tommy Show

When a member of the media like Kelly Collis gets into the stadium with a Nats Plus pass and e-tickets at the centerfield gates instead of a press pass, you have to be impressed. The Nats Plus pass signifies that you are a season ticket holder. Collis is an unapologetic and positive Nats fan who happens to work in the media on the popular Tommy Show. Kelly and her husband pay for their own season ticket plan, and are often seen around the ballpark in their custom Nats jerseys. They don’t have to jump on any Washington Nationals bandwagon because they never left. When the team was 19-31 on May 23rd, Collis did not lose faith. On her radio show with fellow Nats fan Tommy McFly, they talk a lot of Nats baseball on a radio show that is a music format station, and sometimes more than the sports talk stations. It is strange but tue. Continue reading
