Game #140 The Nats will face another lefty starter

If it feels like the Washington Nationals are facing a lot of left-handed pitching, you would be correct. Manager Dave Martinez will have eight of his nine batters starting the game from the right-handed batter’s box to face lefty Ranger Suarez. Continue reading

Game #139 Last trip to Philly with many new faces

Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

Today was another with a lot of moves, and while none of the new players added to the roster today are in the starting lineup, you will notice that only two of the nine position players were in the Opening Day lineup — and of course you knew it was Lane Thomas and Cesar Hernandez. The other seven players came from many different places to the Washington Nationals roster. Continue reading

Game #138 A goodbye to long road trips

Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

With an early afternoon game, the Washington Nationals have a chance to get a win after a tough ninth inning loss last night when the Cardinals scored five runs to walk-off on the Nats. Statistically it was not a blown save, but we all know it was one of the worst meltdowns in a final inning in Nats history. Continue reading

Game #137 Nats are going 6-man rotation

Photo by Don H. for TalkNats

With Cory Abbott inserted back into the starting rotation, the Washington Nationals get their first-time with a 6-man rotation by design. With 25-games remaining after tonight, there is essentially four starts remaining for most of the starters unless the team inserts two of the injured starters: Cade Cavalli and MacKenzie Gore. So yes, it is hard to tell who gets what in the final 25-games.  Continue reading

Game #136 Nats have a good thing going!

Don H. is in the house!

The Washington Nationals have won three games in a row, and while it won’t change much for the team’s last place status, it is better late than never in a quest to avoid 100 losses this season. Can the Nats go 15-12 to finish the season? It is a big ask for a team that has a tough schedule ahead. But hey, that’s why we play the games. Continue reading

Nationals No. 1 Prospect, Robert Hassell III, Heating Up

Robert Hassell III; Photo provided by Wilmington Blue Rocks by Ryan Griffith

The Washington Nationals top prospect is starting to get the bat going heading into the last part of the season. While he got off to a slow start in his time in the Nats’ system, everyone knew it was just a matter of time before Robert Hassell III started to turn some heads. The young player is currently on a six-game hit streak for the Double-A Harrisburg Senators. Over the span of these six games, Hassell is hitting .320. He also hit his first HR in the Nats organization on September 4th vs the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

To close out the regular season, the Senators have 12 games left. Nats fans should keep an eye on Hassell to see how he closes out the season.

The 21-year-old can easily be the face of the franchise in years to come, so hop on the bandwagon now. The 6’2 OF has been playing centerfield for the Senators so far and looks like it is going to stay that way.

There was some question which spot in the OF he would play, but Hassell looks comfortable in CF which is a good sign for the Nats.
With questions regarding Victor Robles longevity on the big league team, it is refreshing to see that more options are coming available for the Nationals organization.

One really positive note with RH3 is that he is not afraid to send the ball the other way. Out of his last eight hits, six of them were hit to the opposite field. This makes it where defenses will not go into shifts. It is great seeing the Nats top prospects tearing it up in the minor leagues. Who else is excited for RH3?

Game #134 Winner takes the series!

This is a winner-take-series game, and if the Washington Nationals can win today’s game they would win this series against the Mets, and go 10-10 in this span since they changed shortstops with CJ Abrams. Yes, defense matters and the change in ERA is over 1.0 run improved by Nats pitchers. Continue reading
