At this point in meaningful series, the Washington Nationals are just trying to show that they can still compete. The Mets and Braves are separated by just 2 ½ games in the standings, and the Braves are feeling it as they are playing with a lot of swagger. They torched the Nats last night, and today’s contest has Patrick Corbin versus Kyle Wright who has been the Braves’ best right-handed pitcher this year. Continue reading

For Joan Adon, you have to take advantage of your opportunities. He is getting the start today in place of the injured Jackson Tetreault. Continue reading
This is all about Cade Cavalli, and the game he put together for Triple-A Rochester Red Wings. Clearly, an ace is supposed to go deep into games, and dominate batters while allowing few ( or in this case, none) to score. Mission accomplished as the Nats first-rounder of the 2020 draft threw 7.0 scoreless innings with only two baserunners via hits, no walks, and seven punchies. An absolute gem. Sure, this is Triple-A, not the Majors. But after a Fangraphs evaluator this week wrote his doubts about Cavalli, maybe there was some extra motivation from the kid out of Oklahoma. He delivered.
Also, Cavalli was selected to rhe 23rd SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game features the top Minor League prospects competing as part of All-Star Saturday. It is Cavalli’s second selection for that All-Star team, and joining him will be Darren Baker, a first-time selection.

Last night, the Washington Nationals were missing two of their big bats in the lineup as Juan Soto was nursing his calf strain, and Nelson Cruz was dealing with a stomach issue. Cruz, the team’s DH, is out again today, and Soto will take his spot at DH. Continue reading

The Washington Nationals might be happy to see any team other than the Miami Marlins, and the team is in Philadelphia for a three-game series against the Phillies. While Juan Soto‘s status is unknown at this hour, we do know that the Phillies best player, Bryce Harper, won’t be playing for several weeks — to possibly months after a fractured thumb had to be surgically repaired.
As it was, Harper was not playing in the outfield due to a partial tear of his UCL that kept him from throwing, and if not for the designated hitter put into the rulebook in the NL this year, Harper might not have played at all this season. Continue reading

Yesterday afternoon, the Washington Nationals were hitless but not lifeless through six innings. Starting pitcher Erick Fedde turned in another one of those starts that did not look pretty, but really was when you looked at the scoreboard. Fedde held the Marlins to just two runs over those six innings, and the team’s best player this year, Josh Bell, broke up Pablo Lopez‘s no-hitter on the 85th pitch of the game. In fact, Bell would later score the Nats’ first run soon after, and the game would be tied at 2-2 going into the eighth inning when Bell would put the Nats on top 3-2 with a home run. We recently upgraded our comment system to improve reliability, performance, and long-term control, and we’re currently running both systems during the transition. This shift moves us away from an external service to a system we run and control directly—meaning we own the content and can continue improving it over time. We’ve also reduced the comment refresh delay from about 30 seconds to 10 seconds, making it much closer to real-time.
We understand there have been frustrations and increased feedback, and we’re actively working to improve things. What we ask is simple: use the system and give it a fair shot. If you run into issues, please submit them through the support form so we can track and fix them properly. Repeated complaints without details don’t help us solve problems—we appreciate your patience as we continue refining the experience.
