Cade Cavalli with an ace’s gem!

This is all about Cade Cavalli, and the game he put together for Triple-A Rochester Red Wings. Clearly, an ace is supposed to go deep into games, and dominate batters while allowing few ( or in this case, none) to score. Mission accomplished as the Nats first-rounder of the 2020 draft threw 7.0 scoreless innings with only two baserunners via hits, no walks, and seven punchies. An absolute gem. Sure, this is Triple-A, not the Majors. But after a Fangraphs evaluator this week wrote his doubts about Cavalli, maybe there was some extra motivation from the kid out of Oklahoma. He delivered.

Also, Cavalli was selected to rhe 23rd SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game features the top Minor League prospects competing as part of All-Star Saturday. It is Cavalli’s second selection for that All-Star team, and joining him will be Darren Baker, a first-time selection.

Besides Cavalli, the other star of last night was Israel Pineda who went 3-5 with a walk, and his hot streak continues since mid-June. The № 22 prospect had just snapped a 10 game hitting streak on Monday when he was 14-34 (.412) in that span, and picked right back up last night.

Another fringe prospect to keep an eye on is Jake Alu.
