In your best Anthony Williams voice, “Baseball is back [fill in the blank]”

The drama between the MLB owners and the MLB players has been a soap opera filled with more twists and turns and villainous characters than Days Of Our Lives.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred is certainly the top villain in this, and who knows if he survives the season finale. The when and where will be officially answered soon enough, and the players could have their chance through their union to file a grievance on grounds that Manfred did NOT meet the March 26th contractual agreement that was signed after the COVID-19 work stoppage. Photographs & Memories of Father’s Day weekends at the ballpark!

My ticket stub from the 5th row behind homeplate on in RFK Stadium on Father’s Day 2006

For as long as I can remember growing up, Father’s Day was a special day with grandfathers, and my dad. There was usually a barbecue with dad having a spatula in-hand flipping burgers over the hot coals. Besides his birthday, Father’s Day was a special day for the man of the house. When I became a dad in 1986, there was no MLB team in Washington, D.C. and I looked forward to the days my own kids would play the game that I loved as a kid. Baseball. What could be better than combining Father’s Day and baseball. Continue reading

This win #47 came in the 89th game in the 2019 season, and the Nats took the a 46-42 record into this game. It took the Nats until June 28th to reach a winning record and they got to 12 games above .500 on August 21st. They dug themselves a deep hole, and it took much longer to dig out of it. Now the Nats were believing they could be a postseason team. Continue reading

The Boys of Summer are nowhere to be found except for at home and local hospitals

Photo by Andrew Lang for TalkNats

Today at 5:43 PM ET, it is officially summer in the northern hemisphere of the United States; however, the “Boys of Summer” are missing. They could actually play with waivers in every MLB stadium in the U.S. But instead, the owners and players cannot agree to start the season. Continue reading

Just tell the fans “when and where!”

MicheleS, Luis Albisu, Gerry G.

They say the customer is always right. But do the employees and owners of Major League Baseball care about their customers, aka the fans, in this latest round of baseball negotiations? Ticket sales were already on the decline last year. What will it look like when fans are allowed to return to stadiums? The casual fan is being alienated by the negotiating discourse By the day, baseball is losing customers. The players promised they would show up #When the number of games were set and #Where when a date was set. MLB’s commissioner, Rob Manfred, did both this week setting a 60-game season starting on July 19th/20th. The players rejected his proposal countering with a 70-game season and other demands totaling to over $300 million more.  Continue reading

The battle cry from the players was “When and Where”; Manfred gave them that. Now “Whoa and What”!

Major League Baseball players created a hashtag response of #WhenAndWhere that they would show up to play as soon as a date was given to play ball by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred. With a two-day secret meeting between Manfred and MLBPA Executive Director Tony Clark set in Arizona, the two could work face-to-face to resolve the impasse of weeks of leaked information that only added to the virulence in this dispute to get baseball back to work. A work stoppage during Spring Training was caused by a State of Emergency amidst the COVID-19 outbreak and MLB shutdown.

Of course details of this secret meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday leaked to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman that the sides met and had the framework of an agreement then news broke later in the day that some players were balking at the terms.  Continue reading
