Game #55 Nats need a good rebound from Fedde!

It was looking like Erick Fedde was stepping up as a solid No. 2 starter for the Washington Nationals until he had his worst start of his season earlier in the week against the Mets. He came into that start against the Mets with his ERA down to 3.55, and it was 2.55 if you removed his one blow-up start in Arizona. Today, Fedde enters this game with a 4.60 ERA which still leads the staff, and in his 10 starts you were kind enough to remove his two blow-up games to justify that he is a good pitcher, you could make a case for that. But how long do you have to do that to make a case for Fedde? Color most as skeptical as to what Fedde really is. He is just ahead of Josiah Gray who is at 4.71 ERA for the team lead.  Clearly, Fedde and the Nats need a rebound start from him today in Cincinnati. Continue reading

Game #54 marks one-third done with the season!

Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

The season’s sample sizes are no longer small at the one-third mark in the season. The Phillies marked today with the first firing of a manager this year as they parted ways with Joe Girardi. The Washington Nationals only made moves of need today based on an injury and a paternity leave. Lefty Josh Rogers landed on the 10-day IL with a shoulder issue, and Dee Strange-Gordon had a baby this morning. Continue reading

Game #53 A good time for the Nats to get back to winning!

Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

After the Washington Nationals departed NYC with an 0-3 record in that Mets series and being shutout in two straight, some expected changes, but nothing changed on the roster today. The Nats got beat by three pitchers who were not even in their top three on their depth chart with Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer and Tylor Megill injured. Now they come to Cincinnati for the second series in this 10-game road trip. Continue reading

TalkNats MiLB Player and Pitcher of the Month for May!

Up first, the Position Player of the Month for May is Joey Meneses for his outstanding performance at the plate. In 95 at-bats, he hit eight doubles, six home runs, and drove in 18 runs.

Meneses – a 30-year-old veteran first baseman and corner outfielder – hasn’t made his major-league debut yet, but many are speculating that he’ll be the replacement for Josh Bell, if he is eventually traded.

The Pitcher of the Month for May is Jackson Tetreault for his dominance over five starts. In those starts he only allowed four runs – all coming on a pair of two-run homers – over 25.2 innings, pretty remarkable.

It was thought that Tetreault would be called up for today’s spot start (6/1), but the call went to Evan Lee. With an open spot on the 40-man roster, it’s still possible that he’ll be added as a long reliever, if not, we’ll see him in D.C. soon.

Game #52 Evan Lee gets the start and his MLB debut; Luis Garcia is back!

As we broke news yesterday, Evan Lee was officially called up to the roster today and will make his debut start against the Mets. The call-up has only 30 starts on his pro record with 12 relief appearances, and here he is, called up directly from Harisburg Double-A. Lee was a reliever in college at Arkansas as a two-way player, and the Washington Nationals drafted him in 2018 in the 15th round, and decided to convert him to a starter because his three-pitch mix was impressive. The lefty throws a low 90’s fastball that can touch over 95 mph and his curveball has a unique grip and is his best pitch. Lee has spent his time in Double-A improving his changeup and added a cutter over the winter. Continue reading
