Game #29 Max Scherzer gets his first start as a father of 3!

On Sunday, Max Scherzer wrapped up a 2 hour, 37 minute complete game at 3:32 PM for a nice Washington Nationals win to extend a Nats winning streak to four games. We learned after the game that he was headed to the hospital for the birth of his third child who was born 2 hours, 6 minutes after the last pitch.

Given the time for Scherzer to shower and then travel time to the hospital, Max cut it close to get there for the birth of his first son, Derek Alexander. There will be great stories for the Scherzers to tell about the day of the birth. Today, Max will get to pitch for the first time as a father of three on the day before Mother’s Day.

Speaking of Scherzer, he is one strikeout away from tying the Tigers’ Mickey Lolich with 2,832 strikeouts for 20th all-time on the K list. The Top-20 list is extremely impressive.

The Nats enter this game on a high note. It is great to have Juan Soto back, and looking locked in. Last night, his evening ended with a 9th inning  oppo two-run 424 foot home run that was his third dinger in Yankee Stadium in the two games he has started there in his career. Soto was the DH last night and will play rightfield in this game, his first in the field since returning from the 10-day IL. Some would say the 22-year-old owns the Big Apple. In the 23 games that Soto has played in New York City, (Citi Field and Yankee Stadium combined), the Magic Juan’d  is batting .393 with an .857 SLG, 11 HR and 24 RBIs.

Pitching for the Yankees, they have Corey Kluber on the mound. He was the AL Pitcher of the Week for the previous week, but he faced the Orioles and Tigers.

Between Scherzer and Kluber, they have five combined Cy Young awards including the pair earning those awards in the NL and AL during the 2017 season.
