That is hard to do with as good as the starting pitching has been — yet when you have only scored 35 runs in the past 14 games, the team is only scoring 2.5 runs per game on average. You literally have to give up at most 2-runs to have a chance to win on average.

Whatever happened to coaches putting players in the best situations to succeed? If Martinez doesn’t give an apology before today’s game, you have to wonder if he can survive this.

And yes, once again, in key spots, the umpiring was horrific. From the first batter Jose A. Ferrer faced to the last batter, he didn’t get clear and obvious strike calls. That shook Ferrer at a time that his team erased all but 1-run from a 6-run deficit. Ferrer gave back 3-runs, the Nats scored two more, but fell two runs short in the end at 11-9 to the Marlins.

The Washington Nationals are now stuck in a 5-game losing streak. Last night, they needed one productive out in the 9th inning to tie the game with no outs, and the tying run standing on third base. The Nats went scoreless until the 9th inning when they plated three runs and made it a 4-3 game. But three consecutive outs on the infield turned it into another one-run loss.
