The Nats put out a roster that resembled quite a few Spring Training line-ups. Nats lose 7-1 and the game was never really close, and while the Nationals had some chances to score, Tanner Roark dug a hole giving up 7 earned runs. Sammy Solis was very good in 3 innings of scoreless relief.
Joe Ross will pitch tomorrow against Jose Fernandez, and then the Nats will get an day off on Monday before they head to New York for their first games against the Mets.
As expected, Bryce Harper has dropped his appeal of his suspension from MLB for an incident with umpire Brian Knight earlier in the week, and Harper will serve the suspension in Game 2 of today’s doubleheader. The risk if Bryce had his appeal heard and lost his appeal, he would have been suspended in one of the games against the Mets which was a risk not worth taking.

The Nats won this game by a score of 6-4 and the game-winning RBI was from a Wilson Ramos HR. Michael Taylor was the offensive star with 2 hits and 2 walks. Stephen Strasburg worked 6 innings and gave up 3 runs for his 6th win of the season as he is now 6-0. Wilson Ramos raises his OPS to .963 and made some great game calling when it counted most as 3 different Nats pitchers struck out Giancarlo Stanton including Jonathan Papelbon for the final out of the game for Pap’s 11th save of the season. Shawn Kelley was excellent out of the bullpen going 1 2/3 innings of no run relief for his 3rd hold of the season.

Dusty Baker is allowing his players to arrive later this morning if they don’t need treatments, and you hope each Nats player could squeeze in near 8 hours of sound sleep. It helps when you come off of a win. In Game 1 of the doubleheader, the Marlins send lefty Justin Nicolino to the mound while the Nats have this guy named Stephen Strasburg.

Well, that was a fun event. A night after Max Scherzer’s 20 strikeout outing had a buzz that carried over to this wonderful charitable event for Multiple Sclerosis.
“We are family,” Max Scherzer said. “Obviously, an MS cause is close to Ryan’s heart because his mom is affected. I know research for this disease is paramount. Anything I can do to help out a teammate, help out his family, and at the end of the day, we are all family. This is a good thing to do and a great event to be a part of.”
Stephen Drew has to get the first star tonight for his pinch-hit game tying 2 run HR and Bryce Harper the 2nd star for his go-ahead 2 run HR. The 3rd star to Oliver Perez for getting Gio out of trouble with a doubleplay ball with bases loaded. Chris Heisey had a huge pinch-hit HR to make the margin 2 runs for the 9th. Jonathan Papelbon with a quick save that was his 359th of his career that moved him past Troy Percival for sole possession of 10th place on the all-time saves list. Congratulations Paps!

Once again, the Marlins and the Nationals will play an early season series. This will be a 4 game series to include a doubleheader tomorrow. We know today is Gio Gonzalez and Tom Koehler. You probably remember that Bryce Harper has 6 career HRs off of Tom Koehler which is the most that Bryce has against any pitcher. Tomorrow will be Stephen Strasburg in the 1st game of the doubleheader and Tanner Roark in the night game of the doubleheader. Dusty Baker will decide on the 26th player for tomorrow, and the other variable will be the suspension of Bryce Harper as to whether or not he sits out a game tomorrow. Continue reading

We recently upgraded our comment system to improve reliability, performance, and long-term control, and we’re currently running both systems during the transition. This shift moves us away from an external service to a system we run and control directly—meaning we own the content and can continue improving it over time. We’ve also reduced the comment refresh delay from about 30 seconds to 10 seconds, making it much closer to real-time.
We understand there have been frustrations and increased feedback, and we’re actively working to improve things. What we ask is simple: use the system and give it a fair shot. If you run into issues, please submit them through the support form so we can track and fix them properly. Repeated complaints without details don’t help us solve problems—we appreciate your patience as we continue refining the experience.
