Opening Day for some teams is on Sunday; The new MLB rule changes

As I’m sure y’all have heard, MLB officially announced the 2017 rule changes. This is the next step in commissioner Rob Manfred’s never ending quest to reduce dead time and increase action in games.

MLB is officially instating the automatic intentional walk, where just a signal from the dugout is needed to send a man to 1st base, and we can do away with the mind numbing, long, drawn out process of throwing four balls (did the sarcasm come through strongly enough on that?). In addition to that, some mild tweaks were made to replay, and managers now have only 30 seconds to decide if they want to challenge a call. Should a call be challenged, New York now only has 2 minutes to complete their review process and send a ruling back to the umps. There are, of course, exceptions to this 2-minute rule, and it really seems like more of a guideline than an actual rule. Additionally, if a manager is out of challenges, he can’t ask nicely for the umps to review a call on their own until the 8th (they could previously do this starting in the 7th). Continue reading →

The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches – First Spring in Review

Talk Nats has led the way in coverage of the new Ballpark of the Palm Beaches with reviews of the new facility (TBOTPB and BPPB). This article looks at attendance during the first spring and what can be done to entice more fans to make the trip down to Florida.

The Cy Young vs. The Heisman; Nats travel to Port St. Lucie; One week until Opening Day

Cy Young was a great baseball pitcher and John Heisman was a pitcher himself growing up. They grew up near each other in rural Ohio. Cy Young was two years older. Heisman played all the sports growing up and preferred football and played in college at Brown University and later Heisman coached baseball, football and basketball at Georgia Tech as well as he became the head of the Atlanta Baseball Association.

Tim Tebow is trying to become a legitimate two-sport athlete in football and baseball, and the fact he made it this far in the New York Mets system shows he just isn’t a side-show even though his odds are long like they were for Michael Jordan to make it to ‘the show’. As most know, Tebow won football’s top collegiate award named after John Heisman known as The Heisman Trophy.  Continue reading →
