Game #1 Opening Day 2019; The battle of Cy Youngs!

The day has come for the games to count as marked by Opening Day each baseball season. Today, this game is between the New York Mets and Washington Nationals with a 1:05pm start time. We move from projections on paper where the game process was more important than the game results to the regular season where only the results matter. In this game, the Cy Young award winners from 2017 and 2018 will be facing-off in this game as Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer will take the mound for their respective teams. Continue reading

What will the Nationals need to do differently in the 2019 season to have a successful season?

The best day of the year is almost upon us! Opening Day is right around the corner and after an exciting but mentally exhausting offseason for Mike Rizzo and the Washington Nationals, the regular season is here! The Nationals made many new additions with the likes of LHP Patrick Corbin, RHP Anibal Sanchez, RPs Tony Sipp, Kyle Barraclough, Trevor Rosenthal, 2B Brian Dozier, Catchers Yan Gomes and Kurt Suzuki, while losing names we at one time or another loved dearly in Tanner Roark and the ever-controversial Bryce Harper. Although we are approaching a new season with a newish-looking team, it’s never a bad idea to reflect on the past, especially when you are looking at things you could as a team improve. An Opening Day Reflection

Tris Speaker 1927 Washington Senators

It is often said that a picture is worth 1000 words.  This one is worth 1000 more.  With a full blown smile future Hall of Famer Tris Speaker looks out onto the greenery of Griffith Stadium as a Washington Senator in 1927.  Prematurely gray at age 39, eyes surrounded by labyrinths of crow’s feet, and staring squarely at the end of his playing career there remains an undeniable air of joy in his countenance.  On display is the essence of the Opening Day paradox where the thrill of annual renewal comes amid the brutal reality of time marching relentlessly onward.

Exhibition Game with the Yankees and the new season brings a new Podcast!

The all too familiar scene of Nationals Park baseball is a reality again as the Washington Nationals returned to Washington, D.C. for the first time since the Winterfest fan experience in December. Part of the familiar look of Nationals Park is the threat of rain if you can believe that, and visions of Skittles advertising on the tarp could be on display once again if that sponsorship was renewed. The Yankees are the Nationals opponent in this exhibition game which is a real treat for the fans who could get to see players like Aaron Judge, Troy Tulowitzki, and Giancarlo Stanton.
