Saturday’s Minor League stand-outs!

Washington’s minor league farm system update!

There were a lot of close games in the Nats’ minor league affiliates  tonight. Fredericksburg and Wilmington (walk-off) both had one-run wins, while Harrisburg lost by one-run, and Rochester lost by two-runs. The FredNats have a 4-game winning streak going.

There are plenty of players who stepped up today. We also got to see the 2022 debut for catcher Drew Millas who started a rehab assignment at Class-A Fredericksburg.

Game #17 Nats on a slide….

Who thought that Aaron Sanchez would pitch before Anibal Sanchez? Well, it has happened. The Washington Nationals promoted Aaron today and DFA’d Patrick Murphy. And yes, Anibal is still on the the 10-day IL and nowhere close to pitching this season. Continue reading

Prospects and Standouts for Friday’s Games

Washington’s minor league farm system update!

All of the Nats’ minor league affiliates won tonight.

What a night it was for Cole Henry, the Nats Top-3 pitching prospect was on a pitch count and threw a 3-inning no-hitter for Harrisburg Double-A.  At High-A Wilmington,  Tim Cate had a nice outing of 4.0 innings in relief with shutout work as he was on a pitch count also.

Maybe the coolest play you will see involved Brady House and Jacob Young at Class-A Fredericksburg. House popped-up in foul territory near the 1st base dugout, and Young tagged up from third base and scored which then tallied for House one of the most unuusal Sac Fly and RBI you will ever see. Game #16 Nats have the Giants in for a three-game weekend series!

Photo by Andrew Lang for TalkNats

Momentum is your next day’s starting pitcher. After the Washington Nationals swept the Diamondbacks in a doubleheader on Tuesday, the momentum disappeared against the surprising ace pitching of Merrill Kelly who has only allowed 1-run all season, and the Nats put on a late rally last night that ended in a disappointing 1-run loss. These are the types of games the Nats have to find a way of winning to stay close to .500. Continue reading

Prospects and Standouts for Thursday’s Games

What an exciting night in the Nats’ minor league system with last inning wins by Fredericksburg in Class-A and Rochester in Triple-A. Also, Harrisburg in Double-A had a blow-out win. Unfortunately, the big league club, the Washington the Nationals, lost a tough game to end their series with the D-backs. Keibert Ruiz had two of the Nats’ five hits as he tallies another multi-hit game. Continue reading

Game #15 in this four-game finale against the Diamondbacks

The injured list is expanding for the Washington Nationals; however, it did not claim slugger Josh Bell who received a clean MRI this morning on his knee. Unfortunately, Hunter Harvey did land on the 10-day IL with a right pronator strain, and utility man Ehire Adrianza was moved to the 60-Day IL to make room on the 40-man roster. Adrianza is dealing with a quad pull. Continue reading

Another FredNats filled box score and some Mitchell Parker mastery!

The Fredericksburg Nationals bounced back from their five-hit performance in a big way with the help of a 10-run 8th inning. Leandro Emiliani, the reigning Carolina League Player-of-the-Week, hit a grand slam to break the game open and Jeremy De La Rosa stayed hot with a three-hit, three-RBI performance. In relief, Jose Ferrer pitched another clean inning with a strikeout. I’m a big fan of Ferrer, and featured him in my preseason prospect watch list. Continue reading

Game #14 and the wins aren’t easy!

Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

This game can be cruel, and it took another victim as Sean Doolittle heads to the 10-day IL with a strained throwing elbow. With his previous arm injuries, his future could be in jeopardy. This year, Doo has been brilliant on the mound pitching in nearly half of the Washington Nationals games this season with almost perfect stuff over 5 1/3 innings yielding just one baserunner.

There were a bunch of roster moves as the Nats will carry 12 position players, five starting pitchers, and 12 relievers now. Sam Clay is up and Fernando Perez will stay as Donovan Casey‘s five-day tour of the Nats’ bench didn’t yield any playing time — and he was shipped back to Rochester Triple-A.  Continue reading
