Game #16 Nats have the Giants in for a three-game weekend series!

Momentum is your next day’s starting pitcher. After the Washington Nationals swept the Diamondbacks in a doubleheader on Tuesday, the momentum disappeared against the surprising ace pitching of Merrill Kelly who has only allowed 1-run all season, and the Nats put on a late rally last night that ended in a disappointing 1-run loss. These are the types of games the Nats have to find a way of winning to stay close to .500. The 6-9 Nats have Patrick Corbin on the mound tonight facing an “opener” for the Giants as they have lefty Sam Long on the mound. The Giants just finished up a tough series against the Mets and traveled down to D.C. with an 8-5 record. The Giants were a surprise playoff team last year under the tutelage of manager Gabe Kapler who sparked some life into that team.  They signed free agent Joc Pederson in the off-season, and he is the only active player who has who has won two consecutive World Series rings in the last two World Series. Along with Pederson, the Giants have rookie catcher Joey Bart, and some familiar names like Brandon Crawford and Brandon Belt who were around in the Giants last World Series seasons. We will see how Nats’ manager Dave Martinez assembles his lineup against a lefty opener. This could be interesting as the team is trying to light a spark at the top and bottom of the lineup.
