Game #14 and the wins aren’t easy!

This game can be cruel, and it took another victim as Sean Doolittle heads to the 10-day IL with a strained throwing elbow. With his previous arm injuries, his future could be in jeopardy. This year, Doo has been brilliant on the mound pitching in nearly half of the Washington Nationals games this season with almost perfect stuff over 5 1/3 innings yielding just one baserunner. There were a bunch of roster moves as the Nats will carry 12 position players, five starting pitchers, and 12 relievers now. Sam Clay is up and Fernando Perez will stay as Donovan Casey‘s five-day tour of the Nats’ bench didn’t yield any playing time — and he was shipped back to Rochester Triple-A.  Yes, baseball can be cruel. Doolittle has had a long career, and Casey’s never really started. Through three cities his newlywed wife traveled from Rochester to Pittsburgh to Washington, DC and she was joined by other family and friends from New Jersey, and all they got to see was everyone else play. Oh well, hopefully Casey’s chance will come in the future. The Diamondbacks will send Merrill Kelly to the mound. He has been very good in his two starts yielding no runs and few baserunners in 9 1/3 innings so far. His five-pitch mix has been on-point, and he will face a challenge on another chilly night in Washington, D.C. This will be the Nats fifth attempt on the 2022 season to get back to the .500 mark. The last time the team was there was on July 2 in 2021. They have been one win away when their record was 0-1, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5. and now at 6-7. A win tonight, would be a big accomplishment.
