Game #160 Final series of the season for the Nats!

Photo by Kevin Nibley for TalkNats

Guess what? There is inclement weather at CitiField tonight as the East Coast continues to get rain from the remnants of Hurricane Ian. While the Mets will play in the postseason and most likely as a Wild Card team, the Washington Nationals will be golfing this weekend because this is the final series of the season for the Nats. Happy 22nd birthday CJ Abrams! Is it time for a present from Mike Rizzo?

WASHINGTON, DC – SEPTEMBER 28, 2022: CJ Abrams #5 of the Washington Nationals hits a walk-off single at Nationals Park to beat the Braves (Photo by Sol Tucker/TalkNats)

First of all, happy birthday to CJ Abrams who is celebrating his 22nd birthday today in the Big Apple. Just last week, Abrams hit his first walk-off in his MLB career. The 22-year-old will certainly have a lot of firsts. That happens when you are new to the league and just 42-games in his Washington Nationals’ career.  The question might be, do the Nats tie up Abrams for the long-term now? That’s the multi-million dollar question. To state my obvious to the question, “I do.”

Game #158 Let’s try this 2nd game of the doubleheader!

Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

This is the opportunity of a lifetime for Tommy Romero who gets the spot start for the Washington Nationals as the 29th man in this doubleheader. He had his first opportunity with the Tampa Bay Rays earlier in the season and it was a mixed bag of results. Continue reading

Game #157 Let’s try this doubleheader thing again! Part II

The all too familiar sight of the tarp on the field. See if you can follow what happened to today’s originally scheduled doubleheader. With the remnants of Hurricane Ian heading to Washington, D.C. they decided on Thursday to make today a single afternoon game and make Friday a split-day/night doubleheader, but last night’s game was rained out. So here we are again back to another split-day/night doubleheader. Once again, things do not look good on the weather forecast right now. Continue reading

Game #156 Hurricane Ian will ultimately determine this doubleheader!

Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

Have the words “hurricane”, “spoiler”, and “doubleheader” been used in the same sentence before? Mother Nature has once again created damage and wreaked havoc on millions of people. Hurricane Ian pummeled the west coast of Florida with it’s target on Ft. Myers, Florida which is the Spring Training home to both the Red Sox and Twins as well as hundreds of thousands of people who live there.

For baseball fans, this should really be a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. But here we are, with no roof to close on Nationals Park and no control over the weather. Tomorrow’s doubleheader was reduced to an afternoon game with a preemptive move to make today a split-day/night doubleheader. Things do not look good on the weather forecast for after 4pm, truth be told. Continue reading

Game #155 Josiah Gray on the mound for the last time in DC this season!

For the 23rd time this season, the Washington Nationals are in a salvage game in a series. The Nats are 11-11 in salvage games this year and looking to turn that to a dozen wins.  This is also the season’s finale against the Atlanta Braves. Continue reading
