Ryan Zimmerman Had an Underrated Career

Photo by Marlene Koenig for TalkNats

Ryan Zimmerman had a career that many people outside of the Washington, D.C. area are overlooking. It isn’t a Hall of Fame career, rather one of the best careers for any player wearing a Washington Nationals uniform. The third baseman earned the nickname “Mr. National” and gave this franchise hope in the dark years during the teams first six years in their existence — before the team started winning. Zimmerman brought loyalty, consistency, and leadership to the Washington Nationals. Not only was he the first ever draft pick by the Nats back in 2005, but Zimmerman also went to the University of Virginia and grew up in Virginia. Today he makes his home for his family in McLean, Virginia. As a player growing up nearby made him a fan favorite before he even stepped a foot on the diamond. Continue reading

Game #162 is the Nats’ finale to a disappointing 2022 season!

Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

Back at the start of the season, you had hope for one of those miracles where the Washington Nationals would beat the analyst’s projections. It turned out to be the opposite. The projections were too kind to the Nats. The disappointments came in bunches, and on the final game of the season, just more question marks as additional injuries piled up. Victor Robles is out with a calf injury, CJ Abrams with a shoulder injury, and Keibert Ruiz remains out with a testicular contusion. Even general manager Mike Rizzo has called the oft-injured Stephen Strasburg a “mystery” when discussing his future. The good news is that Robles, Abrams, and Ruiz should all be healthy and ready for Spring Training. Continue reading

Is it time for Mike Rizzo to give up the GM hat?

Photo by Andrew Lang for TalkNats

This is a positive which you might not be able to tell by the title. Many of the top baseball teams have taken their long-term and successful general managers and elevated them to the President of Baseball Operations positions, allowing them to hire a general manager under them. Theo Epstein did that with the Cubs, Andrew Friedman with the Dodgers, Farhad Zahidi with the Giants, and John Mozeliak with the Cardinals, and on and on.  Continue reading

Game #161 Game 2 of this doubleheader in NYC!

The Washington Nationals would not roll over for the Mets in the first game of the doubleheader as the underdogs kept it close at a 4-2 game. Yes, it was a loss, but the Nats continue to show their fight when they are playing the best teams. Continue reading

Game #160 becomes part of an afternoon/evening doubleheader!

Photo by Kevin Nibley for TalkNats

With last night’s game postponed due to rain from the remnants of Hurricane Ian, the Washington Nationals and New York Mets will play an afternoon game followed by a second game for a doubleheader. With the Braves losing last night, the Mets still have a small glimmer of hope of winning the NL East which would require the Braves to get swept today and tomorrow by the Marlins and the Mets to sweep the Nats. This is the final series of the season for the Nats. Continue reading

Photo by Kevin Nibley for TalkNats

Guess what? There is inclement weather at CitiField tonight as the East Coast continues to get rain from the remnants of Hurricane Ian. While the Mets will play in the postseason and most likely as a Wild Card team, the Washington Nationals will be golfing this weekend because this is the final series of the season for the Nats. Happy 22nd birthday CJ Abrams! Is it time for a present from Mike Rizzo?

WASHINGTON, DC – SEPTEMBER 28, 2022: CJ Abrams #5 of the Washington Nationals hits a walk-off single at Nationals Park to beat the Braves (Photo by Sol Tucker/TalkNats)

First of all, happy birthday to CJ Abrams who is celebrating his 22nd birthday today in the Big Apple. Just last week, Abrams hit his first walk-off in his MLB career. The 22-year-old will certainly have a lot of firsts. That happens when you are new to the league and just 42-games in his Washington Nationals’ career.  The question might be, do the Nats tie up Abrams for the long-term now? That’s the multi-million dollar question. To state my obvious to the question, “I do.”
