2023 MLB Draft is finished! The Nats come away as BIG winners — and their best farm system ever!

The real winners of the draft must be based on the actual signings, and the Washington Nationals front office will continue to work on finalizing contracts for their Big-3 picks from rounds 1-to-3 of Dylan Crews, Yohandy Morales, and Travis Sykora. Based on the rankings of those players in pre-draft evaluations, the Nationals come away as BIG winners with three players of first round talent. Each are already seeded into our Top-12 prospects in the Nats’ system.

Optimism and Natitude align after the Draft!

People can choose their outlook on life — but if you are not more optimistic today as a Washington Nationals fan than you were on August 2, 2022, I don’t know what to tell you. The Nats pulled off the start to a great draft, a day after watching their two best prospects, James Wood and Brady House, who shined in the All-Star Futures Game. Drafting Dylan Crews at №2 overall in the Draft with Yohandy Morales at №40, just netted the Nats two of the best near-ready college bats in the draft. To start day 2 of the draft, the Nats went for more first round talent and scored Travis Sykora who pitched at the same Round Rock High School in Texas as Mason Thompson and Jared McKenzie, as well as former Nats outfielder Ryan Langerhans. Sykora was committed to University of Texas, but it sounds like he will sign with the Nats.

The Nats draft Dylan Crews at #2 overall. An historic day for the franchise.

The Washington Nationals made it official with a pick of Dylan Crews after the Pittsburgh Pirates shocked the baseball world and drafted Paul Skenes at No. 1 overall. General manager Mike Rizzo said the team would go slow to start Crews off in the system, and that means they won’t start him at Double-A out of the gates. After scouting director, Kris Kline, rattled off the names of five players a few days ago that the Nats could pick in the first round, he spoke about Skenes first, Wyatt Langford second, Max Clark third, Walker Jenkins fourth, and Crews as the fifth player he spoke in-depth about. Maybe Kline knew then that Crews was the guy.

Game #90 Final game before All-Star break and the Draft

The Washington Nationals smashed their way to a decisive 8-3 victory yesterday over Texas. Today, they go for a series win in the final game before the All-Star break — and the MLB Draft. Today is a reminder that all of the pieces given up in the Adam Eaton blockbuster trade are still very active in the MLB. That December 7 trade of 2016 extricated the Nats’ three highest ranked pitching prospects to complete the deal which included the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball, Lucas Giolito, and young fireballer Reynaldo López, and the final piece was the Texas Rangers’ starter Dane Dunning who is 8-1 this season with a 2.61 ERA.

The All-Star Futures Game features the Nats Top-2 prospects in Wood and House

This is a star-studded weekend for the Washington Nationals in showcasing their Top-2 prospects — and two of the best players in all of minor league baseball at Saturday’s All-Star Futures Game in Seattle, Washington. As it stands today, James Wood will be the №5 ranked prospect and Brady House will be №72 on MLB Pipeline.

With Seattle hosting this year’s All-Star festivities, the Futures Game will be the must-see TV on Saturday at 7pm EST on Peacock TV. The 7-inning game at Seattle’s T-Mobile Park will feature 50 of the game’s top Minor Leaguers, and by that math you can see that not all teams will have two players representing them. This is the 24th edition of baseball’s greatest prospect showcase. House, a shortstop converted to third baseman this year went from Single-A to a promotion to High-A Wilmington already this season, and Wood, an outfielder was promoted from Wilmington to Double-A Harrisburg in an early season promotion.

Game #89 Nats have to stop a 5-game slide

The Washington Nationals are now on a five-game skid that began at Nationals Park after a successful 6-3 road trip. Parts of the team have looked flat. Manager Dave Martinez and general manager Mike Rizzo are looking for answers. They have changed up the lineup as well as the roster.

The pitching is .42 runs worse at home games in ERAs of 5.01 versus 4.59 on the road, but more so it is the offense that has scored 3.56 runs at home per game versus 4.61 on the road and that is a 1.05 differential per game. Add the .42 difference in ERA and the difference is nearly 1.50 runs per game, and now you see why the team is 13-32 at home, and 21-22 on the road.

Game #88 on the start to an historic Nats weekend!

The Washington Nationals are on a four-game skid and the schedule does not get easier with the first place Texas Rangers in town for the final weekend before the All-Star break. This is an historic time for the Washington Nationals as they will pick second in the draft for the first time ever on Sunday, and they have their top-2 prospects going to the All-Star Future’s Game tomorrow.

As we balance the present with the future, it is taking the bad as the losses at Nationals Park keeps piling up, and the team has a horrific 13-31 record in D.C. They just look like a team at home that plays with a lack of energy. Why that is? It’s anyone’s guess. When you look at a team on the road that is 21-22 which is just one game short of .500 baseball, you have to scratch your head.
