Game #86 Nats looking to win with their All-Star

The Washington Nationals are on a two-game skid in this four-game series against Cincinnati Reds, and what the Nats need is a Curly W. The team has their lone All-Star on the mound with Josiah Gray, and the team needs him to step up. This will be Gray’s final game before the All-Star game in Seattle.

There was another roster move today with Derek Hill DFA’d, and Alex Call called back up to the roster. Call will be back in center field tonight and batting ninth.

“We’ve got to play better. We came off a (6-3) road trip that we played really, really well. We’ve got to get better. … Today, the defense wasn’t there. We couldn’t hold their runners on. They were stealing everywhere. We’ve got to get better holding runners on. We can’t let them just get out there and run.

— manager Dave Martinez said after the previous game

The Nats starting pitchers have a combined ERA of 4.62 for 20th best in MLB. After Patrick Corbin threw another dud, the starter’s ERA took a big hit.

Here is how they rank:

No. 5 Starter: Patrick Corbin 5,13
No. 4 Starter: Jake Irvin 4.70
No. 3 Starter: MacKenzie Gore 4.48
No. 2 Starter: Trevor Williams 4.34
No. 1 Starter: Josiah Gray 3.30
