The bullpen ineptitude continues, and while last night’s reliever meltdown was not the worst we have seen, it ruined a 6-inning, 2-hit scoreless gem, by starter Josiah Gray. A 1-0 lead in the late innings feels as dangerous as walking on a tightrope with no safety net, and because the margin for error was so slim, Mason Thompson fell hard — and his team with him.

The Washington Nationals have exactly 60 games remaining in this 2023 season. If they were a playoff team — it would be a sprint to the finish. They are not — the Nats are playing for respectability, and it is not a sprint, rather a spring forward towards a brighter future. The team put itself on a 69-win pace after a 5-1 successful homestand.

The Washington Nationals stole a win last night with a come-from-behind stunner that ended just before midnight in Washington, D.C. due to two lengthy rain delays with a 6-5 win. The win erased some crucial mistakes and missed opportunities. That win also sets up a chance for the Nats to win this series with a win today.

The Washington Nationals scored six runs and threw out two runners at the plate last night as part of three outfield assists. Of course they had to win last night, right? Wrong. Patrick Corbin was tagged for five earnies and the bullpen couldn’t throw zeros which turned into a 10-6 loss.

The Washington Nationals do not currently have a Face of the Franchise. Dylan Crews could be that player to fill the vacant cleats that Ryan Zimmerman left behind when he retired. Those are some mighty big cleats. Sure, Employee #11 was in the house today to stir up some social media chatter from some lesser-informed fans thinking he wants to make a comeback. Nope, no comeback for Zim. He is actually on the Nats payroll in general manager Mike Rizzo’s front office. He was taking some groundballs for fun. He was a day late from seeing Crews because Zim had a scheduled appearance at Dick’s Sporting Goods. It’s all good. They will see each other at some point.

It was the COVID summer of 2020, Dylan Crews had already decided to withdraw his name from the MLB Draft out of high school at Lake Mary in the Orlando, Florida suburbs. He could have been a Top-20 pick that year and signed for over $2 million — but instead, everything told him to honor his college commitment at LSU — and he did. It proved to be the smartest thing he said he ever did.

The Washington Nationals already had the CJ Abrams bobblehead night set before the 2023 season, and little did they know he would hit his 10th home run in that game and that the team would officially introduce their first round top prospect, Dylan Crews, at the same time. While Abrams was talking on top of the dugout to a group of about five hundred season ticket holders, they were certainly looking over Abrams’ shoulders at what Crews was doing during his first batting practice with the Nats.

Officially, Dylan Crews is being introduced by the Washington Nationals to the baseball world. We broke the news earlier this week that the framework on Crews’ deal was done and he would head to Washington to make it official after his physical which was done yesterday. The internet went crazy on Thursday when Crews was spotted after his arrival at Reagan National Airport in the DMV. Yesterday he was roaming the streets of D.C. wearing a Nats t-shirt in the afternoon, and had a beer at Walter’s in the Navy Yard. Per Jon Heyman, his deal will be just over slot and around $9 million which agrees with the math and showed that this time the Nats had the leverage against super agent Scott Boras who reps Crews. Don’t worry, Crews isn’t going poor, and that amount is the largest signing bonus to a position player in the slot value era.

We recently upgraded our comment system to improve reliability, performance, and long-term control, and we’re currently running both systems during the transition. This shift moves us away from an external service to a system we run and control directly—meaning we own the content and can continue improving it over time. We’ve also reduced the comment refresh delay from about 30 seconds to 10 seconds, making it much closer to real-time.
We understand there have been frustrations and increased feedback, and we’re actively working to improve things. What we ask is simple: use the system and give it a fair shot. Repeated complaints without details don’t help us solve problems—we appreciate your patience as we continue refining the experience.
