The Washington Nationals made no trades today. The trade deadline came and went with only Jeimer Candelario traded yesterday. The fans are split in how they feel about the lack of action. Basically you either trust your general manager to make the best deals for the team -or- you don’t. Rizzo had plenty of offers to consider — but in the end the only one he took was the Candelario deal.

The Washington Nationals officially traded Jeimer Candelario just before the start of this game to the Cubs. The last time the Nats and Cubs did a deadline trade it was Daniel Murphy for Andruw Monasterio. The irony is that Monasterio did not even stay two weeks in a Nats’ uniform, and today he is starting for the Brewers in today’s game against the Nats. Of course Monasterio was then traded with Daniel Johnson and Jefry Rodriguez to Cleveland for Yan Gomes.

The Washington Nationals offense disappeared in the first two games against the Mets. One run in each game is all the Nats could piece together. MacKenzie Gore had a shutout going into the fifth inning with two outs until he was victimized by Pete Alonso. For Gore, he has looked so good at times but seemed to run out of stamina in that fifth inning with two walks and a hanging slider that took a 0-0 game to 3-0.

The Washington Nationals have a tall task tonight facing old friend, Max Scherzer, tonight in New York. The Nats will pitch lefty MacKenzie Gore, a night after the Nats got a gem from Josiah Gray who moved up to the 12th best ERA in all of baseball at 3.27. The Nats offense was back to run support issues behind Gray with only one run scored.

The bullpen ineptitude continues, and while last night’s reliever meltdown was not the worst we have seen, it ruined a 6-inning, 2-hit scoreless gem, by starter Josiah Gray. A 1-0 lead in the late innings feels as dangerous as walking on a tightrope with no safety net, and because the margin for error was so slim, Mason Thompson fell hard — and his team with him.

The Washington Nationals have exactly 60 games remaining in this 2023 season. If they were a playoff team — it would be a sprint to the finish. They are not — the Nats are playing for respectability, and it is not a sprint, rather a spring forward towards a brighter future. The team put itself on a 69-win pace after a 5-1 successful homestand.

The Washington Nationals stole a win last night with a come-from-behind stunner that ended just before midnight in Washington, D.C. due to two lengthy rain delays with a 6-5 win. The win erased some crucial mistakes and missed opportunities. That win also sets up a chance for the Nats to win this series with a win today.

This shift moves us away from an external service to a system we run and control directly—meaning we own the content and can continue improving it over time. We’ve also reduced the comment refresh delay from about 30 seconds to 10 seconds, making it much closer to real-time.
We understand there have been frustrations and increased feedback, and we’re actively working to improve things. What we ask is simple: use the system and give it a fair shot. Repeated complaints without details don’t help us solve problems—we appreciate your patience as we continue refining the experience.
