#Nats have a tough one in Miami – Postgame

On a night when Jose Fernandez left the door open, the Nats couldn’t capitalize on offense and the opposite was the case with Tanner Roark.  Roark left the door open and the Marlins took advantage in a 6-1 loss and Roark gave up 4 earned runs.

Roark acknowledged in the postgame that he made a bad pitch to Osuna and Stanton.

The Nats ran when they should not have run and challenged a foul ball call when they should not have. That’s how the night went. The Nats didn’t run in a 3-2 count in the 1st inning with Rendon at-bat and Taylor on 1st but then went straight steal later in the game and Taylor was caught stealing.

Roark was really the story as he had Ozuna who has been struggling and left a ball over the plate for a 2 out 2 RBI single. Roark had a balk in the game and later missed in location with 2 outs and bases empty to Stanton who crushed a HR.

The Nats bright spot on offense was Taylor who went 2-4 with a walk but he wiped himself off the base paths with a caught stealing and he struck out with bases loaded.

The Nats had hits but they couldn’t put hits together except one time in the game.

Rendon and Harper were excellent on defense. Harper threw out Realmuto at 2nd but he was ruled safe and the Nats had no challenges to get it overturned.

That’s the way the game went.

Game #12 #Nats in Miami, Roark/Fernandez Game Thread

The Washington Nationals traveled to Miami last night for their 4 game series which starts tonight at 7:10pm and matches up Tanner Roark and Jose Fernandez. Both pitchers are coming off good starts after shaky first starts. In fact, Fernandez lost his first start ever at his home park in the Marlins 2nd game of the year.

The Marlins got seemingly blindsided and then swept by the Atlanta Braves who were winless unless they beat the Marlins in 3 straight games over the weekend.

This game begins week 3 of the season for both teams, and with a 4 game series we will see where we are after Thursday’s game.

Here are the Nats stats against Jose Fernandez:

Here is Tanner Roark vs. the Marlins:

  4. Ryan Zimmerman 1B
  5. Daniel Murphy 2B

Game #11 as it’s Gio’s turn for the #Nats: Game Thread

The Nationals send Gio Gonzalez to the mound to see if he can repeat the success he had in his first start. The Phillies send RHP Charlie Morton who is the ex-Pittsburgh Pirate.

We are going to have to see what line-up Dusty put together for this day-game after a night-game. This 1:35pm start time and the Gio Gonzalez start should signal a day-off for Wilson Ramos. Dusty said he will have some other moves. Stay tuned on that.

Game #10 Scherzer and Nola in Philly: Game Thread

In tonight’s game, the Nationals send Max Scherzer to the mound versus right-handed pitcher Aaron Nola of the Phillies.

Scherzer is coming off of a sub-par performance earlier in the week against the Braves when he gave up 4 runs over 6 innings and walked 3 batters to go with 6 hits. Scherzer was pitching in that start on 2 extra days rest and might have been too strong.

The Phillies are a  team that Scherzer pitches well against, and you might be thinking that Scherzer is due for an early season gem to follow-up on the great performance that Joe Ross had last night. Continue reading
