When you are in a starting rotation with Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg, you know that your team will have a great pitching staff. Patrick Corbin had options on which team he would sign with when he became a free agent after the 2018 season. General manager Mike Rizzo and principal owner Mark Lerner rolled out the red carpet for Corbin, and his signing paid dividends as he was the Nats most effective pitcher through May 25th. The Nationals were digging themselves out of the hole they dug for themselves, and in Corbin games to that point the Nats were 7-4 while the rest of the “ace” staff was 14-27. In the postseason, Patrick Corbin played a hybrid role as a key Hi Lev reliever and starting pitcher. He was the winning pitcher of the final game of the NLCS as a starter and Game 7 of the World Series as a reliever. Yesterday, The Jim Rome Show had Corbin on as a guest. Continue reading

The Washington Nationals have posted their new ticket refund and incentives program for 2020! It is by far the best in baseball!

Good things come to those who wait. The Nationals ticket rollover policy is the best in baseball. Maybe the Nationals thought they should be the last team to put their COVID-19 game cancellation plan in writing since they were the last team standing in the World Series. According to USA Today that as of May 3rd, all teams reported their new 2020 ticket policies except the Washington Nationals. There is no doubt that the Washington Nationals executive in charge of communicating the new 2020 ticket policy has had some sleepless nights lately. Nobody could have envisioned four and a half months after hoisting the World Series trophy that Jake Burns would be thrust into the throes of a pandemic. But why are the Nationals the last to the party by several days?

Last week, Nationals ticket reps were instructed to personally call each of their full-plan season ticket holders according to multiple sources who responded to our requests, and the message they were told was that a policy would be forthcoming. Multiple Nationals SPH (season plan holders) reported to us a similar theme in the message they received last week in phone calls from their ticket reps as to why the Nationals were delaying the publishing of their policy. The common denominator of the theme of the message was that the Nationals wanted to give their fans — and I will paraphrase, “the best options of any team”. Did the Nationals deliver on that promise? Yes they did!  Continue reading

MLB is supposed to send over their newest 2020 proposal to the MLBPA to “Play Ball”

Photo by Craig Nedrow for TalkNats

Were you part of the group who thought that MLB commissioner Rob Manfred was done negotiating for 2020 with the MLBPA? Yes, they came to an agreement last month on pro-rated salaries and other concessions. Now word is spreading that MLB wants to change it up to a a revenue-sharing arrangement between the players and teams if baseball resumes this year. Maybe this is just a negotiating tactic that MLB would open up their books. They have never done that before so why start now? Continue reading
