Once again the Washington Nationals are traveling that 14-mile road trip to the north to Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium which is the Spring Training home of the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals jointly. They are part of the four team configuration along with the Nats and Astros that call Palm Beach County home. It is convenient in this compacted Spring Training  that MLB limited to only neighboring teams to curtail the travel, and the fifth team in the circuit is the Mets.

The math could work for the #Nats to extend Trea and Soto!

You never want to look back and do the coulda, shoulda, woulda. The Washington Nationals can do it. There just has to be a shift away from the $100 million starting rotations if the Nats have a real chance to retain Trea Turner and Juan Soto for the rest of this decade and beyond for the 22 year old, Soto. Game #7 gets Joe Ross on the mound!

The Washington Nationals will get Joe Ross on the Spring Training mound for the first time in 2021. Last year, Ross opted-out due to COVID concerns. He will be eased back into the 2021 season, and with Stephen Strasburg scheduled to pitch tomorrow, the Nats just need to get Jon Lester back on the mound. It might be a while for Lester who is recovering from his surgery last week to remove his thyroid gland. Continue reading

The complexion of the Nats bullpen changed today!

On February 22nd as news broke of Jeremy Jeffress signing a minor league deal, it appeared he would have the clearest path to the final spot in the Washington Nationals bullpen. In less than two weeks on the Spring Training roster, Jeffress is gone. Things rarely appear that simple on clear paths to the roster.

When Jeffress was unceremoniously released, general manager Mike Rizzo stated, “He was released for personnel reasons” and no further explanation was given as barbs and jabs were flying on Twitter after Jeffress put out a series of cryptic tweets. With Opening Day in twenty-five days, the battle for the final roster spot(s) are whittled down by the first cut of Spring Training. Continue reading

Photo by Lynn G. for TalkNats

Here we are 27-days before Opening Day on April 1, and the first projected Washington Nationals starting pitcher is making his debut in a Spring Training game. Before camp opened in mid-February, it was known that Max Scherzer twisted his ankle. The team was taking it slow with him, and here we are with the 3-time Cy pitcher on the mound for the first time in 2021 to face the St. Louis Cardinals. Continue reading

Today was supposed to have been Jon Lester‘s debut game in Spring Training for the Washington Nationals, but instead he was scratched because of the decision to have surgery to remove his thyroid gland. Nationals’ manager Dave Martinez will now use reliever Kyle Finnegan as his opener followed by several other pitchers in this first 2021 meeting with the New York Mets in Port St. Lucie.
