Full Slate of Baseball on a Chilly Tuesday

In game one of the Nationals’ doubleheader, Josiah Gray shoved. He struck out eight over five and 1/3 innings while giving up one run via a solo homer. His fastball velocity was down a tick, averaging 92.8 mph today, but his curveball induced six whiffs and nine called strikes. Gray is now pitching to a 3.14 ERA in his three starts so far this season. Continue reading

Game #13 is the second game of this day/night doubleheader!

Photo by Marlene Koenig for TalkNats

It was good to see the Washington Nationals win the first game of this doubleheader with a nice 6-1 victory. Madison Bumgarner had a no-hitter going into the fifth inning and if not for a dropped popup, he would have taken his no-hitter into sixth inning. The Nats took advantage of the Diamondbacks’ mistake and poured it on. Continue reading

Game #12 is the first game of today’s doubleheader against Arizona!

The rain has been wreaking havoc for years now in Washington’s baseball schedule. The beautiful DC weekend weather, while the Nats were on the road, was replaced by rain yesterday that made it necessary to have a doubleheader today. The Nationals opted not to go with a spot starter for the tonight’s game, and instead will callup Francisco Perez for that game as their 29th man. Continue reading

Stat Leaders and Standouts through Week 2 of the MiLB Season

We’re going onto week three of the minor league baseball season and these are the qualified stat leaders throughout the Washington Nationals system. A little light on power throughout the system in the colder weather, but heavy on the hits.

On top is Luis García, who leads in nearly every category leaving some people puzzled about why the 21-year-old is still in the minors behind a struggling Alcides Escobar. The answer; García is in Rochester to improve his defense at shortstop, and it does need work from the product we saw in spring training. Tres Barrera has also put up gaudy numbers thus far, but missed the qualification by a game or two. Continue reading

A Lot of Action on a Minor League filled Sunday

What a week for Luis Garcia who could not be stopped in Rochester as he notched his fifth multi-hit game in his last six games. Garcia now leads all of Triple-A with 18 hits on the season. Another infield prospect, Jackson Cluff, broke out of a slump with a home run at Double-A Harrisburg. Continue reading

Game #11 is the third time the charm for Corbin?

Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

Was it a mirage that we saw in Spring Training with Patrick Corbin? He has had two starts so far this season and his ERA is double digits. The sample size is small and the hope is that the third time’s the charm with Corbin. Continue reading

Many hot prospects and young stars shined tonight!

What a Triple-A Rochester debut for the newly acquired outfielder, Josh Palacios, after general manager Mike Rizzo claimed the outfielder off waivers from Toronto.  Palacios  hit the walk-off single on his way to a 3-for-4 night that included a 3-run homer plus he had two walks.  Continue reading

Game #10 Jolly Rogers! The Nats will try for .500 again!

Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

Is the fourth time the charm for the Washington Nationals to try to get back to .500? They were 0-1, 2-3, 3-4, and now 4-5 with a chance to get a start over in the NL East that is scuffling. Continue reading

A Full Day of Prospects and young stars for Friday’s Recap

Not much going on for a six game slate (Rochester had a double header and a walk-off win in Game 1), but there was a little action for Friday. In Harrisburg, Richard Guasch gutted through five innings on 74 pitches to ultimately get a tough loss. He was followed up by Gerardo Carrillo who continues to have spotty outings. This time it came in the form of a one hit, one run, one walk, and one strikeout inning. In Carrillo’s inning of work, he threw 14 of his 25 pitches for strikes. Continue reading
