Game #126 Cade Cavalli MLB Debut

Photo by Stephen Lasnick for TalkNats

The rumors proved true that the Washington Nationals were going to activate Cade Cavalli this week. They were waiting for an optimal matchup for Cade Cavalli’s debut, and what better time to do this? He gets to face a Cincinnati Reds team without lefty Joey Votto who is finished for the season with an injury. In fact, the Reds have three starters hitting .180 and less in tonight’s lineup. It is very reminiscent of when Stephen Strasburg got his debut against a depleted Pirates team twelve years ago. Continue reading

Rebuilds have one thing in common

All rebuilds have one thing in common: they are painful for fans. The rest is how you approach it, and none are exactly the same — but many blow it. The Angels, Tigers, Rangers, and White Sox come to mind on the list of botching it. The Phillies would have made this list, but they are now in a wait-and-see as their strategy was to just throw money at the problem. Looking at those five teams, the Tigers were the last one to make it to a World Series, and the year was 2012 and they lost. All of those teams except for the White Sox have fired their general managers, and they’ve all changed managers recently.  Continue reading

Game #124 There was a time when Fedde and Ray were in the same farm system!

Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

There will be a few roster moves tonight as Erick Fedde comes off of the IL and will start tonight in Seattle. The Washington Nationals mad to move a pitcher off of the roster, and it turned out to be Tyler Clippard who was DFA’d. Manager Dave Martinez already said that Cory Abbott would not stay in the starting rotation, and would move to the bullpen. Also, Tres Barrera was sent back to Triple-A and changed places with Riley Adams. Continue reading

Game #120 Nats are in San Diego for 4 games

Photo by Steve Mears for TalkNats

For some fans who have been out of it for a while they might be wondering why Josh Bell and Juan Soto are in Padres jerseys, and C.J. Abrams is in a Washington Nationals jersey. That blockbuster trade has propelled the Nationals farm system into a top-half of the Majors’ farm system. It is much better than the Nats’ preseason rankings of bottom of the barrel — that’s for sure. The Nats have Abrams starting at shorstop tonight, and MacKenzie Gore is on the 15-day IL and will do some throwing this week as he recovers from some arm soreness.  Continue reading
