The Washington Nationals open up a 3-game series in inter-league play against the Minnesota Twins at Nationals Park. Cade Cavalli starts this series on an extra day of rest, courtesy of a scheduled day-off on the calendar yesterday.
Even with the Nats day-off yesterday, they moved up into a tie for 2nd place after a Marlins loss on Monday. The Nats need a winning streak to get ahead of where they want to be. The team’s best this season was winning three consecutive games on Apr. 10 to April 12. What the Nationals also need to do is start playing better with their home field advantage as the team is just 4-12.
On the health of Luis Garcia Jr. who was pulled from Sunday’s game with a sore wrist and was due to take an MRI yesterday — BUT won’t go on the IL today per a source.
Hopefully the Nats can give extra arm-health rest days to Brad Lord, PJ Poulin, and Mitchell Parker. Here is a quick look at the use and usage in the Nats’ bullpen:
The FanGraphs WAR chart is accumulating data. This will start to give us a clearer picture in a few more weeks when the sample sizes get larger. The OAA defense stat is now giving us a picture of what the Nats have — and don’t have. We will start adding more statistics as the sample sizes get larger.
