Game #146 Mr. Rogers vs. Mr. Rogers in the Navy Yard neighborhood!

It is Roberto Clemente Day in Major League Baseball today. Washington Nationals manager, Dave Martinez, grew up idolizing Clemente. Unfortunately, at the age of 38,  Clemente was killed in a plane crash on his way to do charitable work in Nicaragua after an earthquake. Martinez will once again don a #21 jersey in honor of Clemente.

Normally, each team’s Roberto Clemente award winner would wear a #21 jersey, but the Nats nominee was Max Scherzer who was traded.

Today’s rubber game matchup in this series pairs up two rookie Rogers, Trevor Rogers and Josh Rogers, in the first ever dual of opposing starting pitchers who are unrelated with the same last name in a rookie season.

If the Nationals find a way to win this game, they would move into a tie with the Marlins in the standings with 61 wins a piece. The teams will meet in Miami again next Monday to Wednesday for a three-game series which will be their final head-to-head series of this 2021 season.

The Nats have the day off tomorrow, and they accommodate the Marlins travel day with an early game. The Marlins did not extend that same courtesy to the Nats on their last weekday getaway game in Miami in which they had to endure a late evening game.
