Today’s news broke that the Washington Nationals lost infielder Starlin Castro to a paid suspension due to allegations of domestic violence per multiple reports. He will be out for a while, and the Nats activated Jordy Mercer from the 10-day IL to take his place on the roster. The Nats also signed veteran catcher Rene Rivera to a deal and optioned Jakson Reetz back to Triple-A.

The Nats and Padres just faced each other a little over a week ago for four games. Here they are facing each other again with Erick Fedde going for the home team.

For the Padres, they will pitch righty Chris Paddack to start this game, and with a lack of left-handed batters, manager Dave Martinez will go with Josh Harrison in leftfield and Mercer in place of Castro at third base.

Other news in the MASN TV booth broke that F.P. Santangelo would return to the team from his time away due to allegations of violence against a woman made in social media. In Santangelo’s absence, the team had former Nats outfielder, Justin Maxwell, subbing in for Santangelo.
