Game #41 and another salvage game in a series

Another third game of a series, and another salvage game to avoid getting swept. This seems like something the Washington Nationals have faced too often this season. The team has their ace, MacKenzie Gore, on the mound to try to get a Curly W for the Nats. After the game, the team will head to Atlanta for a 4-game series, and the first time they face the Braves this season.

Game #40 The season is 25% over and Rizzo has already DFA’d 2 free agents.

The Washington Nationals have just reached the 25 percent completion mark in the season, and last night DFA’d another of general manager Mike Rizzo’s offseason free agent signings. This time it was Lucas Sims and his 13.86 ERA. Sims joins Colin Poche who was DFA’d last week. That is $4.4 million of wasted money just flushed away. Normally, Rizzo waits a lot longer to make these moves. Could Josh Bell be next? He currently has the lowest WAR value on the team per BBRef at -1.0. That is tough to do at the 1/4 pole of the season.

Game #38 Nats go for another series win

The Washington Nationals welcome back Michael Soroka to the rotation today from the IL in a stint that began after his only start of the season on March 31. Soroka’s only start for the Nationals was against the Blue Jays, and did not go well. He gave up four runs over 5.0 innings. Afterwards, Soroka felt bicep tightness and was placed on the IL.

The Washington Nationals got an early lead but then fell behind in another shaky start by Trevor Williams. The Nats offense clawed back and then took a demanding lead that allowed Williams to stay in the game, and turn the game into a win.
