Baseball America’s new Top-100 Prospect Rankings updated again! Count ’em: 5 Nats!

Last night, Baseball America printed another update to their Top-100 rankings after several more graduations of top prospects. On the list, they added infielder Devin Fitz-Gerald. We called him a snub a week ago, and sent that to Baseball America. In this update, they got it right. Last week, shortstop Ronny Cruz and Double-A shortstop Seaver King both landed on the BA Top-100. With Fitz-Gerald joining them, that is a total of five Nats in the coveted Top-100 list along with shortstop Eli Willits and pitcher Jarlin Susana.

Postgamer #41: Another late bullpen meltdown loses Washington the series: A recap

For a second day in a row, the Nationals have given away an opportunity to win a series in Miami, once again thanks to a meltdown by a bullpen that has been solid lately but faced some serious regression this weekend. Tonight’s meltdown came from Gus Varland, who came in to a 2-2 game in the bottom of the eighth inning, and in the process of recording one out, gave up three runs and the game. Another frustrating, yet predictable, episode of mediocrity from a unit that we knew would be bad, but I think a lot of us latched on to some false hope this week after a group of relievers had seemingly caught fire.

Game #41 A series to win in Miami

First of all, Happy Mother’s Day to all who celebrate. We will see plenty of pink bats and pink gear as well as tributes.

The Washington Nationals have a series to win today ahead of tomorrow’s day-off in Cincinnati. Today’s game after the top of the 5th inning is completed marks the exact point when the season is 25 percent completed.

Postgamer #40: Hot start and late rally foiled by rough day from Parker: A recap

Mitchell Parker has been a much better piece for this Nationals pitching staff since being moved to the bullpen, and today was one of the days that remind us why that move was made. The Nats gave him the ball in a one-run game, and over the course of a one-inning outing, five runs would cross the plate, giving Miami a huge win to even the series. The offense is just as guilty in this one, for a second straight night, the Nats got off to a hot start at the plate, only to go completely silent until the ninth inning. The Nationals finally woke back up in the top of ninth to make it extremely interesting, but ultimately did themselves in on one of numerous mistakes that were made today. A recipe that isn’t going to win you many games, especially given how Blake Butera and company have to manage games in order to win.

Game #40 Nats with a chance to win a series today!

The Washington Nationals got a huge one-run win last night behind the strength of a 7.0 inning gem by Foster Griffin, and a key two-run homer from Jacob Young in a 3-2 win. Now the team is in a position to win the series today and get back to .500.

Postgamer #39: Nats take first game in Miami behind Foster Griffin’s gem: A recap

The Nationals held a 3-2 lead over the Marlins tonight after just one inning of play, and sure enough, that was the same score we sat on after nine innings were through. A blistering start by both offenses in the first inning turned into a pitcher’s duel as both lefty starters, Foster Griffin and Robby Snelling settled in after that. The Nats got a big fly from Jacob Young, seven strong innings from Foster Griffin, five clean outs from Brad Lord (should have been six if not for an error behind him), and a one-out save from PJ Poulin to claim the first of this three-game series in Miami.

Game #39 First series of 2026 in Miami

The Washington Nationals headed to Miami on a happy flight in the early evening yesterday. With the exception of a couple of players, every Nats player boosted their stats on Wednesday and Thursday. With back-to-back wins to take that series against the Twins, the Nats hopefully have some positive momentum going into this weekend series in Miami.

Mid-game on Sunday, we officially will have reached the quarter-pole in the season. Time flies. That’s the point where we can make more assessments. Of course some would say that even July 1 stats have almost been meaningless the past two seasons given the second-half demise of the team’s All-Stars. Yes, Nats fans are nervous. They want to believe in this team, but they also don’t want to be disappointed. That’s part of the problem with trying to project numbers as nothing is better than full-year stats.

All players want those games where you single-handedly lead your team to victory and earn a Gatorade shower!

When was the last time Keibert Ruiz got a Gatorade bath? Photo by Marideth Sandler/TalkNats

Every player dreams of getting a Gatorade shower in a postgame celebration. The tradition is credited to the 1984 New York Giants and nose tackle Jim Burt who drenched his head coach after a key victory. Those moments rarely happen in sports. The unwritten rule is that you must single-handedly carry your team to a victory to earn the dousing. Yesterday, Keibert Ruiz did just that in a 7-5 win by the Washington Nationals.

Postgamer #38: Strong team effort gives the Nats their first home series win of 2026: A recap

Photo by Bailey Accorto for TalkNats

The Nationals, after six tries, have finally won a home series in the Blake Butera era!! The Nats had to get a little bit scrappy in this one. With an electric offensive performance by Keibert Ruiz and a stout effort from back of the bullpen, that was enough to carry the squad to a 7-5 victory this afternoon, capturing the three-game series against the Twins.
