The Boys of Summer are nowhere to be found except for at home and local hospitals

Just tell the fans “when and where!”

They say the customer is always right. But do the employees and owners of Major League Baseball care about their customers, aka the fans, in this latest round of baseball negotiations? Ticket sales were already on the decline last year. What will it look like when fans are allowed to return to stadiums? The casual fan is being alienated by the negotiating discourse By the day, baseball is losing customers. The players promised they would show up #When the number of games were set and #Where when a date was set. MLB’s commissioner, Rob Manfred, did both this week setting a 60-game season starting on July 19th/20th. The players rejected his proposal countering with a 70-game season and other demands totaling to over $300 million more.  Continue reading

The battle cry from the players was “When and Where”; Manfred gave them that. Now “Whoa and What”!

Major League Baseball players created a hashtag response of #WhenAndWhere that they would show up to play as soon as a date was given to play ball by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred. With a two-day secret meeting between Manfred and MLBPA Executive Director Tony Clark set in Arizona, the two could work face-to-face to resolve the impasse of weeks of leaked information that only added to the virulence in this dispute to get baseball back to work. A work stoppage during Spring Training was caused by a State of Emergency amidst the COVID-19 outbreak and MLB shutdown.

Of course details of this secret meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday leaked to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman that the sides met and had the framework of an agreement then news broke later in the day that some players were balking at the terms.  Continue reading
