Game #133 starts a 5-game series against the Mets

With youth comes mistakes, and you must learn by them. And in this case you must win with them. The youngsters must step up if the Washington Nationals have any chance of winning any more games this season. Even with Juan Soto‘s big game yesterday, it was not enough. The Nats are a season’s worst 55-77 entering this game with 30 left to play. If they cannot win eight more games, it will be a 100 loss season. Think about that for a moment. Continue reading

History was made, and it isn’t good for the Nats!

Yesterday’s pre-game article spoke to the 7-game losing streak against the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Washington Nationals would run that to 8-games with great ineptitude after the loss on Thursday. Of those 8-games, the Nats led in six of them and blew leads in a variety of ways.

As was written in the pre-game, if the Phillies make the postseason, the Phillies skipper, Joe Girardi, owes the Nats manager, Dave Martinez, a gift. Girardi was a manager who was rumored a month ago as being on the hot seat and could have been fired after the season. Martinez might have saved Girardi’s job — indirectly. Continue reading

Game #132 marks just 30 games remaining in the season!

So much for the Washington Nationals playing spoiler. If we didn’t know better, we would think manager Dave Martinez was making moves to fail like leaving in Patrick Corbin in a game that was past the point of getting positive results. The Phillies more than any team have been the recipient of the Nats failures since the day before the trade deadline. If the Phillies win the NL East, manager Joe Girardi should send a “thank you” gift to Martinez.  Continue reading

Today marks roster expansion day with two players added on Moving Day

September call-ups used to be limited to fifteen as teams would get their big league rosters close to 40 players. Rule changes now limit rosters in September at 28 in total. At first they wanted those 28 to be split to 14 pitchers and 14 position players but they loosened that rule. Continue reading

Game #131 Nats are trying to play spoiler — and just not succeeding!

Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

News broke this afternoon that the Washington Nationals have finally made the difficult decision to demote Victor Robles back to the minors. We had suggested it numerous times, and while a move has been justified for months, there was not a better option on the Nats depth chart until Lane Thomas was acquired. Unfortunately, Robles’ backup at the time, Andrew Stevenson, had worse stats as a starter. When Thomas was activated, Stevenson was sent down, and now Thomas has a clear path to capitalize on this opportunity and keep it — if he can produce. Continue reading

Game #130 The future is now with Keibert Ruiz, Gray and Soto!

Who would have expected exactly two months ago when the Washington Nationals were 19-9 in the month of June and surging towards first place — just 2.0 games behind the Mets, that this team would be where they are today? Then two injuries happened to start July and their fortunes would change so significantly. Maybe we can look back to the swoon after June as a blessing in disguise.  Continue reading

Game #129 The Nats wrap up another series in NYC as Keibert Ruiz will be coming to DC!

For the 2021 season, the Washington Nationals will be finished with games in New York after today’s series finale. The Nats and Mets will meet next weekend in a rare wrap-around weekend series that carries into Monday on Labor Day. They will actually play five games over the four-game series due to a makeup game that dates back to the postponements from the COVID postponed Opening Day series. Continue reading

Game #128 Nats go with Sean Nolin as their starter against the Mets!

After the Washington Nationals took the first game in the series last night, it is a pitching mismatch tonight in favor of the New York Mets. But there is a reason we play the games. It was the Nats who traveled to NYC with very little sleep, but it was the Mets who were flat. Continue reading

Paolo Espino with help from his bullpen, defense, and 2 runs of support turns into a Curly W!

Sometimes you come to the ballpark and see something you have never seen before. What a ninth inning for the Washington Nationals in a squeaker win at a final score of 2-1. In baseball, you do not win many games when you only score two runs, and tonight those two runs held up. Continue reading
