Nats win! Nats win! One of the best wins of the season!

Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

What a win for the Washington Nationals. After Sean Nolin was ejected for throwing at Freddie Freeman, he was sent to the showers after just three batters and one out in the first inning. The bullpen had to get 26 outs to complete this 4-2 win over the first place Braves. Some would say the Braves woke up a sleeping dog a day after reliever Will Smith plunked Nats’ star Juan Soto in his back — a pitch that looked intentional. Smith and Soto have a history going back to Soto homering off of him last year on August 17. Continue reading

Game #139 Nats have a bigger issue with Alias Smith and Jones!

Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

There has been a superiority complex in Braves’ country long before Sheriff Brian McCann acted like an enforcer in Atlanta. Maybe it started with Chipper Jones and the years of NL East dominance in the 1990’s when his attitude came out, and the tomahawk chop became a thing even though it was deemed inappropriate. Yesterday, Will Smith went too far. Just like the irony in McCann acting like the Sheriff before being the same player implicated in the Astros’ cheating scandal, Smith has been known to be a jerk. Washington Nationals News: Robles Sent To Triple-A, Soto’s Milestone, More

Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

The Washington Nationals (57-81) have 24 games to go in what has been one of the most disappointing seasons in franchise history.  Since July 30, the season has been more about seeing what they have in the young controllable players in their system.  Continue reading

Game #138 starts the last series in Atlanta in 2021

TRUIST PARK | Atlanta, Georgia; Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

We are back in Atlanta for the final series in that city this year. A few of the Nats players get to sleep in their off-season homes as they are from the Atlanta area. For the rest, it is the team hotel. This team is starting to gel on offense, and it is good to see. Lane Thomas is embracing the lead-off role, Josh Bell is bashing again, and Juan Soto is making a statement to be considered in the MVP voting.

Nats with the walk-off win! Carter Kieboom gets it done!

Andrew Stevenson tied the game and collared the blown save on Edwin Diaz; Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

In this 5-game wrap-around series with the Mets, the Nats had three walk-off opportunities with a runner on third base and less than one out — and they capitalized on just one of those golden tickets. Better late than never as the Nats got the walk-off winner today to head on a happy flight from D.C. to Atlanta.

Sometimes baseball does not give you a second chance, but sometimes it does. Carpé diem — sieze the day. Carter Kieboom came up to bat for his second chance, facing the same closer, Edwin Diaz, with the Mets who schooled Kieboom on Friday night. Diaz made quick work of him on three pitches for the strikeout just three nights ago. This afternoon, Kieboom was ready for him and shot a 70.7 mph grounder up the middle that Met’s shortstop, Francisco Lindor, lunged for and the ball clanked off of his Rawlings glove and pinballed past second baseman Javy Baez into centerfield for the game winning single.  Redemption is sweet. Game #137 as this 5-game series wraps up with some hard labor!

Photo by Andrew Lang for TalkNats

Yes, it is Labor Day, and it has felt like a laborious task to watch Patrick Corbin for most of this season. The Washington Nationals have two other lefties now in the starting rotation who have bested Corbin, and chances are 99.9% of baseball fans have no idea who Josh Rogers and Sean Nolin are. Both have better ERA’s than the $24 million a year Corbin with his 6.27 ERA entering this game. In fact Rogers and Nolin will make well under $700,000 if they pitch the rest of the month on the Major League side. Continue reading

Game #136 is a Gray day in D.C.!!!

Photo by Sol Tucker for TalkNats

Can the Washington Nationals make it two Curly W’s in a row? The team has been so close in almost every win and in every loss that the team just needs a ball or two to bounce in their direction. Maybe for once the umpires can make a call that goes the Nats way. Continue reading

Nats win! Nats win! Josh Rogers victorious in his first start!

The seven game losing streak was snapped with this win. There was plenty of fireworks in Mr. Rogers neighborhood in this game. Yes, Josh Rogers almost cruised through six innings on his way to his first victory. Because this was a 7.0 inning game, the bullpen just needed to get through 1 1/3 innings to close out the win. Game #135 is fireworks night to cap this doubleheader!

In the second game of this day/night doubleheader, fans who stick around will get treated to a fireworks show after the game. Of course, the Nats hope to put on their own fireworks show by knocking some bombs out of the park. Continue reading
