Game #45 Beltway Series in D.C.

The Washington Nationals have a weekend series against the Baltimore Orioles. We all know what that means. There will be plenty of orange in Nationals Park and the orange people will yell at the top of their lungs “O” during the singing of the Star Spangled Banner. It is as predictable as the sun will rise tomorrow.

For the starter tonight, it looks to be Zack Littell with no opener before him. Thanks to the way the bullpen was used yesterday, none of the current relievers had to pitch.

The Nats made two roster moves on the pitching staff as we tweeted during the 6th inning yesterday that we expected Zak Kent to be optioned to Triple-A Rochester with Andrew Alvarez taking his place. That indeed happened.

Here is a quick look at the use and usage in manager Blake Butera‘s bullpen:

The FanGraphs WAR chart is accumulating data. This will start to give us a clearer picture in a few more weeks when the sample sizes get even larger. The OAA defense stat is now giving us a picture of what the Nats have — and don’t have.
