Exhibition game in Baltimore

The Washington Nationals have an exhibition game in Baltimore as part of their home-and-road 2-game series with the Orioles. The Nats will call-up LHP Mitchell Parker as the starter of the game. Parker will start the season with Triple-A Rochester, and today’s game is just a fill-in game for Parker.

The team has one final position player cut to make, and we expect that Tres Barrera will be that player unless the team keeps three catchers. As of now, it looks like both Joey Wiemer and Christian Franklin will make the team as the extra outfielders.

The other roster battle is in the bullpen with 11 relievers remaining for just eight spots. Drew Smith will not make the roster as he was released yesterday after looking like a “lock.” We still do not know who the closer is for the team.

❝Drew threw the ball great. … Ultimately, it just came down to we had guys we had ahead of him. But it was not an easy decision, and Drew did pitch great.

— manager Blake Butera said

The Nats will finish first in MLB in Spring Training ERA at 3.00. Unfortunately, the Nats are last in OPS at .606.
