The Washington Nationals and all of baseball will honor the memory of Roberto Clemente tonight as the Nats are in Milwaukee for a weekend series. These are games the Brewers really need to win in their quest to take the NL Central title. They are in a 3-way fight with the Reds and Cubs for supremacy in the central division.
The Nats are just trying to get back on winning ways. The Nats are just 7-14 since Stone Garrett was injured. That .333 winning percentage is good enough to get the Nats to 70 wins, but the rest of the schedule is really tough from here and forward with only a 3-game series against the White Sox as the only game against teams with losing records. In fact, nine of the remaining games are against teams that have already won over 90 games.
Arguably the best pitcher the Nats have in this second half, rookie Jake Irvin, is on the mound. He squares off against Wade Miley who is a filthy lefty. He debuted in 2012 and was ROY runner-up to the Nats’ Bryce Harper in that season. The rest of the series looks like matchups made up with a sense of humor as Trevor Williams goes up against Corbin Burnes tomorrow, and Patrick Corbin against Brandon Woodruff and his 1.93 ERA on Sunday. The Nats really need to win tonight if you know what I mean.
“The at-bats were not good. They weren’t crisp. We chased a lot out of the zone. We got to do a better job.”— manager Dave Martinez said
