Game #61 Patrick Corbin faces his old team in the role of stopper

The Washington Nationals are mired in a 3-game losing streak. Another winnable game yesterday was lost in the bullpen, and the Diamondbacks won the game last night and took sole possession of first place in the NL West.

Tonight, Patrick Corbin will face his old team, and securing a win is the goal here for a vintage Corbin start and to be the stopper. Arizona has Zach Davies on the mound.

“ It’s tough. Erasmo meant a lot to this team and to me. … He just couldn’t find himself.

— manager Dave Martinez

The Nats starting pitchers have a combined ERA of 4.52 for 17th best in MLB. The Nats are just 0.42 from 8th best in MLB in ERA. The Nats enter this game tied with Arizona for starter’s ERA.

Here is how they rank:

No. 5 Starter: Jake Irvin 5.81 ERA
No. 4 Starter: Patrick Corbin 4.92
No. 3 Starter: Trevor Williams 4.15
No. 2 Starter: MacKenzie Gore 3.66
No. 1 Starter: Josiah Gray 3.09

We broke the news early this morning on the TalkNats site and later on Twitter that Cory Abbott was headed to Washington, D.C., and Erasmo Ramirez was DFA’d. That is two consecutive games with DFA’s of veteran relief pitchers.

Here is your Baseball Savant Statcast link for the game.
