Second time in a week, and the Washington Nationals will be facing their former ace
Max Scherzer in a Grapefruit League game. Scherzer’s former Mets’ teammate,
Trevor Williams is scheduled to start for the Nats. This game will be televised on the MLB app and some viewers will get to watch on the MLB Network.
The Nats game yesterday ended in a 5-5 tie with the Marlins. It looked like the Nats were going to walk-off, but instead settled for the Spring Training tie. The Nats had some stellar defense, but the bullpen was really not good except for
Jose Ferrer and
Anthony Banda. The most disappointing part of the game was another RISP situation and bad baserunning. This time it was
Carter Kieboom who got doubled off of second base on a ball in the air to the outfield. In the game before, similar bad baserunning in a similar situation by
Luis Garcia. These aren’t rookies. This cannot happen.
What can happen is playing the game hard, and we saw that yesterday.
Dominic Smith,
Lane Thomas, and
Michael Chavis all had stellar defensive plays.
MacKenzie Gore got in his two innings of work, and will continue to ramp up.
We are now less than four weeks to Opening Day, and there will definitely be open spots to compete for. Sure, starting spots are probably all claimed unless you believe there is a true competition for the fifth starting pitcher’s spot. We will see.
