Game #36 has a vibe of 2019 matchups!

In a matchup of starting pitchers that could be on the marquee for the 2019 World Series, we have a divergent pair with Justin Verlander and Patrick Corbin. While Verlander is turning in a Cy season so far, Corbin is trying to find his former self.

For Corbin, he has made some key adjustments to his pitch mix, and the results have been effective. The lefty has made his sinker the primary fastball in his repertoire, and now uses his 4-seamer high in the zone only. Corbin is throwing his slider less, and sprinkling in a few changeups.

Once again, Riley Adams will catch Corbin, and the other change to manager Dave Martinez‘s lineup is Victor Robles to the bench in favor of Lane Thomas.  The manager was critical, and rightly so, of Robles nonchalantly fielding a single that turned into a double due to Robles nonchalantly throwing the ball back to the infield.

This is the season finale between the Astros and Nats, and the West Palm Beach spring training neighbors won’t see each other until camps open in February of 2023.
