Game #118 the bad news continues

Do you want the good news or the bad news? We wish there was good news to report. The Washington Nationals announced that pitcher Joe Ross has a partial tear in his surgically repaired elbow. He was placed on the 10-day IL and outfielder Lane Thomas was activated.

It was Thomas who the Nats acquired in their final trade before the 5 pm deadline on July 30 in exchange for Jon Lester. He is a speedy defender who just needs to hit. Because of his offensive struggles over his three seasons of callups with the Cardinals, Thomas plummeted on rankings boards and was looking like a DFA candidate.

The Nats face the lefty Drew Smiley in this series finale with the Braves, and Thomas gets his Nats’ debut start in leftfield.
