Game #23 is the first game of a doubleheader of 7-innings each!

After a disappointing in the batter’s box last night for the Nats, they are back at it quickly with a day/night doubleheader. The Nats must get on a lengthy winning streak to get off the bottom of the NL East. The Nationals face the Marlins, and Jon Morosi claims the previous last place Marlins will be buyers leading up to the trade deadline. We still do not know the direction the Nats will be going in as they are missing Stephen Strasburg and Starlin Castro for the long-term.

In the first game of this doubleheader, the Nats have Max Scherzer going.  For the Marlins, they have Daniel Castano who is a lefty out of Baylor University. Castano debuted this year and has two prior starts.

Expect manager Dave Martinez to go with his right-handed lineup, and we will wait and see what he does with Adam Eaton and Luis Garcia as to whether or not they will be in the lineup for the first game.

According to a source, the Nationals are expected to call-up Wil Crowe and add him to the 40-man roster as the 29th man for the doubleheader. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Nats have place Stephen Strasburg on the 60-day IL which this year can be a 45-day minimum period. Strasburg will undergo surgery to try to relieve the pain from carpal tunnel neuritis. If the Nats make the postseason, Strasburg would be eligible to return.
