Game #101 Patrick Corbin will be needed to go deep in this game!

In the second game of this doubleheader, manager Dave Martinez said he hoped that Patrick Corbin could give him 21 outs (7 innings) tonight. That would certainly help a bullpen that covered 5.0 innings this afternoon in the first game of this doubleheader. The Nationals bullpen arms were encouraged to take a nap, and we will see what Martinez comes up with for a line-up to face the lefty Kyle Freeland.

After the first game and as we spoke about in the Game #1 article, the Nats could option Erick Fedde back after the game for an additional player. Yes, they did just that, but instead of replacing him with a pitcher, the Nats turned to catcher Raudy Read who is on the 40-man roster.

The team used Matt Grace for two innings this afternoon, and last night used Michael Blazek for two innings which could mean that several of the Nata bullpen arms used this afternoon like Sean Doolittle, Fernando Rodney and Wander Suero are on a “wait and see” while Tanner Rainey, Javy Guerra, and Tony Sipp will be the main arms tonight if needed.
