Game #68 Scherzer takes the mound again in Toronto!

When Max Scherzer was with the Detroit Tigers, the short trip to Toronto was one he looked forward to since he has had his best games in his career there for an American League ballpark. In his previous four career starts in Toronto, he is 3-and-0 and a 1.98 ERA. That mark in Toronto is almost a full point better than pitching in Kansas City which is Scherzer’s second best AL city where his career ERA is 2.97.

This afternoon’s match-up is between Max Scherzer and former Nat right-hander Marco Estrada who is mired in probably his worst season in the Majors with an ERA above 5.00.

The line-up today has been reconfigured with Matt Adams absent as expected, and Daniel Murphy at first base. Adam Eaton will DH today which will put Michael Taylor back into centerfield.

For now, we are in “wait and see” mode on Matt Adams finger that was hit on his left-hand as he squared around to bunt last night taking the impact squarely off of his phalanges of the index finger. Today’s x-ray was inconclusive as there was too much swelling. The Nationals could do another x-ray on Monday.

Trea Turner stole his 20th base of the season last night to tie Ender Inciarte for the lead in the Major Leagues. The main difference between Inciarte and Turner is the caught-stealing stats. Inciarte has been caught stealing 7 times which is not elite with a 74.1% success rate compared to 95.3% for the Nationals Trea•sure.
