Nats give up 3 unearned and lose 5-2; Nats bullpen with another shutout

The Nationals looked sluggish tonight in the starting pitching, offense, and the defense which equaled a 5-2 loss to the Texas Rangers. In the 9th inning, the Nationals got a gift RBI single by pinch-hitter Stephen Drew to put the tying run in the batter’s box with 2-men on-base, but it was not meant to be.

The Nationals had 3 costly errors by Ryan Zimmerman and Trea Turner that led to 3 unearned runs on Tanner Roark’s ledger. It was a tough night for Roark, but he actually lowered his ERA from 3.95 to 3.87 as he was only charged with 2 earned runs.

The Nationals bullpen between an inning each by Enny Romero, Jacob Turner and Blake Treinen threw a 3-inning shutout making it 13 games of the last 16 that the bullpen has been unscored upon. The Nationals bullpen ERA dropped to 4.74.

Ryan Zimmerman and Daniel Murphy both got a rest day yesterday and they were the sharpest of the Nats hitters in this game.

The Nats will be back early in the morning for a game starting 5 minutes past noon tomorrow.
