In-Game Roark starts!

Nats face off against Julio Teheran and no matter who pitches on the Nats side you’d expect Teheran’s nemesis José Lobaton in the lineup for the Nats.

The good news is AJ Cole won’t be facing Teheran this time and Roark gets a “spot” start in place of Stephen Strasburg.

The Nats line-up is the same 1-7 as last night and MAT sits again tonight and the good news is he says he feels better.

Nats line-up:

  1. Werth RF
  2. Rendon 2B
  3. Harper CF
  4. RZ 1B
  5. CRobinson LF
  6. Escobar 3B,
  7. Desmond SS,
  8. Lobaton C
  9. Roark P

  • Mets lose a DeGrom start, and are dealing with Harvey controversy.

Nats win with clutch hit by ex-Met.

If momentum were going to shift, this is how it would look.

    • virginiascopist

And the Mets lose courtesy of Nats killer Prado. I sense some karma happening here.

      • Steady Eddie

And Nats tie it up with one out left in the ninth courtesy of former Met MdD/”a line single to center is upper decker enough!”

        More karma.

  • Ghost of Steve M.

    NEW POST NEW POST WALKOFF

  • I’ve seen as good but never better.

  • legnatsfan

Have to give MW credit for managing the BP well tonight. Maybe he’s learning after all?

    • Ghost of Steve M.

He listened to the criticism a little more but again the players have to execute. Storen [email protected] the bed again. Everyone else did their job.

CRob defense cost the Nats the other run.

  • Section 222

Marlins win! Marlins win! Marlins win!

MMN stays at 24 with 28 games left.

  • legnatsfan

    Fish win!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ghost of Steve M.

Thanks you to Martin Prado and Yelich!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Could this be the night it turned around?

      • Ghost of Steve M.

Seems like Wednesday was the night it turned around! 3 in a row!

    • Did Yelich steal? He was on 1st right?

      • It was a double into the corner. He scored from first.

        • Ahhh…. ok, Thanks.

        • Ghost of Steve M.

Yep, the kid has speed. Marlins had a leadoff single and with no outs Dee Gordon popped up a bunt. Yelich got on 1st on a fielders choice. He showed big speed.

Prado with 5 hits in the game! Glad he beats up the Mets too!

      • Section 222

He was running on the 3-2 pitch I believe.

  • Marlins walk off!

  • Section 222

Loved the “old man” Harper, talking about the young kid MAT.

  • Lead off single for fish

    • Goodness. They bunt Gordon for some reason and he pops out

  • Section 222

According to MASN’s Chris Johnson, MAT and MdD were high school teammates!

  • Mets retired in the 11th. Still tied

  • Papelbon gave a good interview. Nice win!

    • rayvil01

“That ball looked like a 150 grain hollow point 30-06 coming off the bat.”
One of your more memorable Nats’ quotes.

  • Ozuna strikes out on ball 4. One out man on first.

    • Ghost of Steve M.

      Fish to the 11th.

  • ManassasNatsFan

    Ozuna fouls a meatball.

  • ManassasNatsFan

    Marlins first man on.

  • Section 222

There he is, that clubhouse cancer Jonathan Papelbon.

  • Lead off single for the marlins

  • senators69

    Mikey!!!
How does MAT generate such power with his thin body?
I wonder what would happen if he put on a little muscle?

    • Section 222

      Pap says it’s bat speed.

  • That. Did. Not. Happen.

  • Gonats

Who said on that other site that the Nats have no heart. That was an incredible ending!

    • virginiascopist

Someone really said that? Clearly they never saw Damn Yankees.

  • nats128

That was a great ending courtesy of MdD clutch 2 out RBI single to tie and MATs long blast. I didnt know it was going to be a HR, but knew it was deep enough for a Sac Fly! HR was a bonus!

  • This was almost as good as PH against Pittsburgh (?) When he hit the GS….

  • Smart play, MAT…. Minimal stress on the knee… Well played, Michael, well played…

  • Ghost of Steve M.

    Uh, TALKNATS is now 3-0

  • Joe

    OMG!!

  • natslive

MAT!!!! Nats win. And a tip of the hat to MW for some good managing tonight

    • Ghost of Steve M.

Papelbon for 2 innings took some cajones.

  • Ghost of Steve M.

Matt den Dekker the big hero to me and MAT the walk-off capper!!!!

    • I’ll bet Paps would have ripped his throat out if he’d pulled him.

  • I was screaming… if it’s high, let it fly… nothing low…

    Man, what. A. Game.

  • Section 222

    Pennant Race Baseball! Wow.

Pap gets the win. MAT walkoff. That was something. And now, let’s see what the Mets announcers say about that!

  • Well…. now Fish, do the same…

  • ManassasNatsFan

    MAT

  • Ghost of Steve M.

Michael A. Taylor better get set for some CHOCOLATE SYRUP!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yaaaaaasssssssssssssss

  • Ghost of Steve M.

That bouncer scared me. Good thing they weren’t pinched towards the middle or that would have been a d……….

  • Please, no DP.. no DP…. no DP….

    • ManassasNatsFan

      No dp

  • Ghost of Steve M.

Way to go Bryce!!!! Doing it like a superstar!

  • Ghost of Steve M.

Hoping for Nats and Marlins walk-offs!!!!

  • Section 222

Ron Darling said, “Kelly Johnson need to make like Matt den Dekker.” And he did. Crap!

    • Ghost of Steve M.

      Yah, tough to watch.

    • Regardless of how the Nats season ends (or when it ends) gotta appreciate that this team is playing meaningful games in September…. always ‘enjoy’ those….

  • ManassasNatsFan

    Mets tie it.

    • ManassasNatsFan

He gets first two out then three singles.

  • Marlins trying to blow it. First and third with two outs

  • Wow…. JP for 2 innings… sweet baby jesus…

  • Not to focus on a negative when we got what we needed to stay alive, but Ramos really has to be able to deliver a sac fly in that situation.

  • Rendon, 2 hole hitter, 0 for 5 tonight. That hurts.

    • natslive

Yeah a couple of not good ABs tonight but he has been hitting of late

    • ManassasNatsFan

      Harper in the 3 hole for series 1 fo2 6 walks 5 runs a honer 2 RBI

  • ManassasNatsFan

    Rendon please start hitting.

  • Ghost of Steve M.

Does anyone know why Uggla didn’t pinch-hit for Lobaton?

    • ManassasNatsFan

      Because MW doesn’t trust him.

  • I was thinking steal….. come on Anthony, salvage your night….

    • Ghost of Steve M.

      Yep, MdD should have been.

  • Ok – would be nice to win it here. But who pitches if we don’t? Be nice if TTB spares us from having to figure that out.

  • C’mon two bags, make me eat my earlier post

  • Gonats

That was clutch Matt den Dekker! This guy has been money for this team!

  • natslive

Way to go DenDekker…picked up Ramos after that terrible AB

  • nats128

    Thank you MdD!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great hit….. GREAT HIT…

  • ManassasNatsFan

    Den dekker bails buffalo out

  • Boom,

  • Ghost of Steve M.

MATT DEN DEKKER DOES IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ghost of Steve M.

Awful at-bat there by Ramos. You need contact. Just contact.

  • ManassasNatsFan

The fast ball was a ball why swibg

  • I just want a base hit…

  • ManassasNatsFan

Why do we swing at sluders

  • Come. On. Willlyyyyyyyy……

  • Good job desi

  • Nice job Desi….

  • Ghost of Steve M.

That was balls to bunt Desi again!

  • Section 222

That was some pretty terrible bunting by Ian, until the third try.

    Thank you edit button.

  • ManassasNatsFan

Damn it Desi. It is not hard to bunt.

    • ManassasNatsFan

      Third strike bunt looked good.

  • Ghost of Steve M.

Get Trea Turner in there right now to pinch-run.

  • Get turner in there

  • ManassasNatsFan

Bring in Trea Turner to run

    • ManassasNatsFan

My goodness NW did the right thing.

Cone on Desi if you bunt, bunt.

  • ManassasNatsFan

Not infield fly. Let it drop and get the double play.

I know no one ever does it, but it sure looks doable..

Palpelbon was fine. Now let’s score guys. Braves terrible the last 3 weeks cannot afford to lose this.

  • Ghost of Steve M.
  • Come on JP…. get the DP

  • ManassasNatsFan

Yuni at third bacj fires again.

We already MW is 100% clueless about that defensive replacement.

How come aRizzo doesn’t ride his ass on that is well beyond me.

  • Rendon makes that play

    • ManassasNatsFan

      97% sure

  • Gonats

Papelbon in for the 9th as you’re supposed to do in a close game. Now Paps is supposed to dig deeeeep. 2 on and no out.

  • ManassasNatsFan

See Harper hustled to the Ball where Werth didn’t. Costbus a round, the non hustle.

  • Everything seemed to find a hole last night… and tonight, no such luck…

  • nats128

I count 4 games in the last 30 that Drew Storen has given up leads or tie games. Just can’t happen.

    • ManassasNatsFan

Also you negative mojo from that. So at least 4 losses hung right on him.

  • ManassasNatsFan

According to pitch track had CRob showed patience like Harper only 1 of 5 pitches in the zone. 1 close and ump might call it.

  • natslive

Ok Clint show us why you are still in this game

  • Yikes Ryan….

  • ManassasNatsFan

As good as Zim has been the last week how in hell lose it all in the last couple at bats?

  • Ghost of Steve M.

Marlins go ahead on a bases loaded walk.

    • ManassasNatsFan

      Ozuna on 3-2 count

  • ManassasNatsFan

    Bases loaded walk 5-4 Fish

  • Well, Storen failed in putting up a 0…. Nats bats, please…. finally score some runs…

  • ManassasNatsFan

    Marlins tie it

  • ManassasNatsFan

Werth a terrible throw on an easy double pkay

    • Joe Seamhead

That was not a terrible throw. Zimmerman muffed it.

  • Ghost of Steve M.

    Marlins just tied it

  • Marlins tied it up at least

  • natslive

Boo Drew…..now keep it at only 1 run

  • Ghost of Steve M.

If Bryce was playing RF, Freeman is a dead duck. Lobaton can’t handle the throw but probably safe anyway.

  • Drew blows it again

    • Ghost of Steve M.

I feel sorry for Matt Williams. Between Drew and Janssen this can’t happen.

      • Why didnt a lefty face Freddie?

I don’t feel sorry for him.

        • ManassasNatsFan

Ricero pitched well. Guess mWvdidnt trust him.

          Unfortunately no trust Storen anymore.

      • ManassasNatsFan

Rizzo could have gotten Clippard. Storen was fine in the 9th.

Rizzo is my number 1 problem this year. Storen second biggest problem since July 28.

    • ManassasNatsFan

I would say he is the biggest reason from our side the Mets passed us. He has pitched poorly since August. Cespedes has been hitting for the Mets instead if us.

Werth is in the field after 7 why? He is too slow to the Ball.

      That is on NW.

Storen 100% responsible for his folding on us.

      • Short with OF help as MAT is unavailable. I would rather have Werth in RF and MdD in LF.

        • ManassasNatsFan

I ask Cespedes then. That was a move lots didn’t like, but I called for at the time.

      • Section 222

        Edit button please

  • ManassasNatsFan

Cespedes 11 homers as a Net. Rizzo dibmdnt think he was needed. Still 1 if the Three mis decisions by Rizzo in July.

  • Funnily enough, I would have left Rivero in there…. just to face Freddie…

Then again, idk if it matters who we send up there to face Freddie…

  • ManassasNatsFan

No doubles and a double means slow outfielders.

Storen you pitched great last night, why cone immediately get in trouble.

    • Section 222

Feel free to use the edit button MNF….

  • Ghost of Steve M.

Great beginning to the inning by Drew for a Freeman leadoff double. Are you kidding me.

  • Section 222

That ball was up Drew. Can’t get away with that against Nats-killer Freeman.

    • Ghost of Steve M.

Lousy pitch, little movement. Freeman handles a bat so well that was too easy.

  • Rendon has been poor tonight

  • Gonats

Way to make EJax look good. That’s rare.

  • ManassasNatsFan

Tehran stunk most of the time since the All Star game and would have tonight if we would learn to not swing at strikes.

    • Section 222

When will they ever learn, doo doo doo, when will they ever learn?

  • Ghost of Steve M.

Mets just went ahead 4-3. Thanks for nothing Marlins

    • ManassasNatsFan

We just need to win every game, the rest takes care of itself.

      • Section 222

Right. We need to stop swinging at sliders outside of the zone and win every game. Simple.

  • Ghost of Steve M.

Werth was robbed. A sure double.

  • ManassasNatsFan

    Adonnis makes up for error

  • knoxvillenat

    Robbed!

  • nats128

Nats have to take advantage of Edwin Jackson. Everyone else has.

  • ManassasNatsFan

Espinosa didn’t hustle at all there. Freeman might have screwed up with a hustling Espi.

  • Section 222

Was the last time EJax pitched in Nats Park Game 5? Yikes.

  • ManassasNatsFan

Edwin Jackson pitched poor for us. Let’s hope he pitches poor to us.

  • senators69

Rivero has some velo! Seems like he throws FB 90% of the time. What is his off-speed pitch in the low 80’s? Does he only have two pitches?

  • Nasty stuff from rivero

  • Ghost of Steve M.

Nats have to score here and get the game ready for Drew & Jonathan.

  • ManassasNatsFan

Hitters time to hit RISP. 2 for 8 and neither scored a run. Just sent a guy to third.

  • natslive

Bad ABs by both Lobaton and Desi….still don’t understand not pinch running/defensive replacement for CRob

    • Ghost of Steve M.

A head scratcher. First run scored eventually on that single to CRob that should have been caught.

  • 3rd time stranded a runner on third with 1 out

  • Ghost of Steve M.

What a disappointment. I can’t believe in 3 innings a man on 3rd and less than 2 outs and you can’t score the runner 1 time.

Poor efforts with Desi and Lobaton once again.

    • A sure fire case for they used it all up last night.

      • ManassasNatsFan

Every night is independent, I don’t believe you use it up.

        Each day you regenerate hitting.

      • Ghost of Steve M.

Nah, just poor execution. Look at all the opportunities.

    • natslive

That is the frustrating thing with this team and has been most of the year

  • 1st pitch swinging huh Lobo….

    Back I go.

    • ManassasNatsFan

I have no problem swinging at first if it is a fast ball that you varrell up. Unless right in your sweet spot I do have a problem

  • Don’t think I quiet understand Desi swinging right there…

    • Ghost of Steve M.

We never will. Did any ball make it into the zone?

    • ManassasNatsFan

      There is nothing to understand.

He lets a fast ball go in the second and since has swung at sliders.

  • ManassasNatsFan

    Desi leave the sliders go

    • ManassasNatsFan

You swung at two sliders neither close to a strike.

Where is Schu coaching. As a teacher repeat repeat repeat until it plastered in their head.

  • Also didn’t agree with using both Thornton And Rivero back to back. Who faces Freddie next time up?

    • ManassasNatsFan

      Matt Grace

    • Ghost of Steve M.

Let’s hope the 7th is 1-2-3 and Freddie is the leadoff in the 8th.

  • ManassasNatsFan

    3 hits no run Yet.

  • So in this close game…. where we are about to get into their BP, I can expect defensive subs next inning, right?

A new LF and a new 3rd baseman?

    • Ghost of Steve M.

PInch run immediately with MdD and have him replace CRob for defense.

  • Ghost of Steve M.

You have to put in MdD here to run for CRob. It’s the 6th inning. Come on MW.

    • natslive

      And you get better defense

      • nats128

Exactly. A no brain move there.

  • natslive

Nice play TTB and Zim and a good inning by Rivero

    • Ghost of Steve M.

It was a slick play. Ryan has to know sometimes when to stay home.

      • natslive

Think that will come as he gets more experience at 1B

  • ManassasNatsFan

    glove to hand

  • Not sure I like Rivero in this situation.

    • ManassasNatsFan

      It worked fine 3 grounders.

      Now let’s score boys

    • Okay I was wrong.

    • Ghost of Steve M.

Does Rivero pitch the 7th against the pinch-hitter and Markakis?

  • ManassasNatsFan

Rendon clue. Sliders are not worth swinging at . if needed just foul them. Note from Luke Appling

  • Ghost of Steve M.

TyMo should be standing on 1st with a walk.

    https://twitter.com/NationalsUmp/status/639961494927618048

  • ManassasNatsFan

Julio sucks but we have only 2 hits. Why?

    • Ghost of Steve M.

Not capitalizing with men at 3rd and less than 2 outs is an issue. That’s happened twice so far.

  • senators69

Watching the Nats and Serena at the US Open — She lost the first set and is in a fight in the second!

  • natslive

    Good job Matts!

    • Ghost of Steve M.

You all crack me up. Great move walking Freeman with 1st base open was a no brainer. Bringing in Thornton given his history on Pierczyinski was smart. Not bringing in a righty for Adonis was a risk. It worked but it was a risk.

      • nats128

Managers always look smart when there moves work.

  • ManassasNatsFan

    Great job Thorton.

    MW good call.

  • Ghost of Steve M.

Why wasn’t a righty up to face this Adonis guy? You are smart enough to get the lefty.

    • Ghost of Steve M.

Good job Thornton. Honestly I couldn’t watch. Had a bad feeling there……………wooooo

    • ManassasNatsFan

I was wondering the same thing, but it worked out.

  • natslive

Think I would have brought in Rivero but good out there by Thornton

  • Ghost of Steve M.

    What a play by Desi!!!

    • nats128

Look at Thornton backup that play.

  • ManassasNatsFan

FP says Roark not happy. Then my suggestion is cutting out the walks.

  • Ghost of Steve M.

Glad at least MW had the short leash. Critical moment in the game. Need a K or doubleplay here on Pierczynski.

    • ManassasNatsFan

      Short but not shirt enough.

  • ManassasNatsFan

Walking Freeman works if you get AJ. Walk to Harper worked because Zim just flew out.

    • Ghost of Steve M.

      Disagree. 1st base was open.

      • ManassasNatsFan

Ted Williams used to get intentionally walk late in games regardless of open bases.

  • AJ Cole coming up?

  • nats128

Have to walk Freddie Freeman here. This is a must win game. You can not mess around here.

  • nats128

Darn walks Tanner. Learn man. Make them earn it.

    • ManassasNatsFan

And then multiplies the walk giving up a double. MW gets him out but not til he set up danger. He didn’t smell the danger after the hard fly by the pitcher.

  • ManassasNatsFan

Damn it Roark cut the walks out.

  • Section 222

ESPN has Harper’s homer at 111.5 mph. Didn’t Carp say the exit velocity was 104?

    https://twitter.com/ESPNStatsInfo/status/639947374635425792/photo/1

Also, it was not Harper’s longest homer:

    http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2015/04/18/119072604/bryce-harper-hits-the-longest-home-run-of-his-career-with-this-461-foot-blast

    • Ghost of Steve M.

Do you expect accuracy from your broadcasters. Charlie and Dave had it correct.

  • knoxvillenat

Nats leaving too many runners on base. RISP batting average not good tonight.

    • ManassasNatsFan

Good last night but poor tonight.

  • ManassasNatsFan

Man on third one. Upper cut the swing.

  • Gonats

Leadoff error by the Barves and you must make them pay.

    • Ghost of Steve M.

Poor at-bat by Lobaton as he got a pitch to go to LF and weakly hits it back to the pitcher. Not good.

    • ManassasNatsFan

Last night we hit the clutch so far tonight we haven’t

  • Ghost of Steve M.

That was a good tag by CRob. Glad he was smart enough to get back there as he scores any way (I think) if Markakis doesn’t get to it.

  • ManassasNatsFan

    Markkakus nice play.

  • 3-0 fish

  • Ghost of Steve M.

    Desi got robbed. That hurts.

  • ManassasNatsFan

    Miguel Rojas single 3-0

  • Ghost of Steve M.

2nd and 1st now. MW not thinking out of the box with CRob who could be as slow as Ramos. You got 2 ABs out of him and a costly mis-read on defense. Why not pinch-run with Trea Turner and have him steal 2nd and into scoring position and put pressure on the Barves.

In this type of game CRob would get you 2 more at-bats at most.

    • nats128

Why think out of the box. Do you think he has 8 bench players or something HAH

    • knoxvillenat

Think outside of the box? There is evidence that Matt doesn’t think well inside the box.

  • ManassasNatsFan

    Sac fly Marlins up 2-0

  • Ghost of Steve M.

Bill Buckner would be impressed with Adonis Garcia.

  • Frediot got lucky on the Harper walk to get to Zim.

  • nats128

Clint Robinson is a walking liability. Lucky that wasnt a triple going foul.

    • Ghost of Steve M.

If he gets the Nats 2 runs on offense then he is +1 to the good. If he gets on base here I would pinch run for him with Turner and get him out of the game.

  • Section 222

I think Tanner got a gift from the ump there. That 3rd strike looked high.

    • nats128

Fp didnt say it was a perfect frame and that pitch rectangle they showed was in the top corner.

      • Section 222

I saw that of course. Hard to tell because of the frame exactly where it was when it crossed the plate.

  • nats128

Half the crowd thought that was a grand slam by Zim.

    • ManassasNatsFan

Hit solid but not off the sweet spot a little up from the sweet spot.

  • ManassasNatsFan

Zim hit the Ball like Rendon needed too. Awibgingcacslider on 3-2 count not near the plate is not a good thing.

    • nats128

      What is a Awibgingcacslider

      • LOL

        • Ghost of Steve M.

I think that translates to “A swinging slider on a 3-2 count not near the plate is not a good thing.”

      • ManassasNatsFan

My space bar to damn small. C and v end up a lot of notes.

  • Section 222

Too bad. Quite a gamble by Fredi.

    • ManassasNatsFan

Zim now 5 for 25 vs. Tehran Harper is 10 for 22. A gamble? I guess.

      • nats128

Zim is the hottest hitter in the world. It worked and Freddi looks smart for the moment.

      • Section 222

Good point. But those numbers don’t take account of how hot Zim is. That’s what really made it a gamble.

  • I hope the IBB to Harper backfires on the Braves!

    • ManassasNatsFan

It could have but Zin didn’t get all that pitch. Rendon was the big problem that inning k on a ball 4.

  • natslive

    Need RZ to deliver again

  • Section 222

Ladies and gents, that’s what you call R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

    • Big respect to Harper. RZ needed to make them pay. Close.

    • senators69

Gotta keep track of Harps ABs this game and last to see what stats magic results!

  • natslive

Not sure what Anthony was swinging at

    • ManassasNatsFan

A slider not near the zone. Didn’t read the pitch well out of the hand.

  • nats128

Read this whole article on the Teheran plunk on Harper in 2013 and how even the Barves official Twitter got into the fray.

I love the Blue jerseys, but it’s sometimes confusing when glancing up, especially playing the Braves. They often wear dark blue on the road.

    • nats128

Agree. When Roark was bunting I got confused for a second.

  • natslive

And now a run. Roark deserved better

    • Ghost of Steve M.

Nibbled too much on Markakis but clearly Robinson needs to catch that ball.

  • natslive

    Gift from Clint there

  • Ghost of Steve M.

FP says that was lost in the lights? Really, poor route to the ball by CRob. That hurts as does the walk.

    • senators69

Yup. I think most LFs woulda gotten that ball.
CRob good at DH, but in the field — Yikes!
      Roark not that sharp too.

      • nats128

The more you play Clint the more he exposes you on defense. Save him as the bat off the bench.

        • senators69

And as DH in AL parks. Good bat. Gotta try to get him in…somewhere!

  • Nats best chance to win a WS is this year. FP, sometimes you’ve got to tone it down. I get the whole momentum thing, but our BP is not that good. It will be a serious issue.

  • Section 222

Kind of looked like his foot came off the ground on that one FP…

  • Reverendp

    My lord that was bomb.

Bet that fan never expected that ball to land there, even with Harper up.

  • Section 222

    Upper freakin’ tank!

    • Ghost of Steve M.

Do you remember a couple of years ago when Harper smashed a HR and Teheran HBP’d in the next AB.

      • knoxvillenat

Yes! That was in a season when Harper wore a bullseye on his uni when several ATL pitchers hit him as I recall.

        • nats128

He is a punk and he did not go soft on the plunk.

      • Section 222

Yup. That was in the Brian McCann era. Maybe Tehran’s grown up a bit since then.

  • ManassasNatsFan

    Survived the first.

  • ManassasNatsFan

Looks like the tag was missed originally.

  • ManassasNatsFan

Didn’t take long to break up the no hitter. To get the batters I wanted I took Roark as a pitcher. He better play well.

  • On the road for this game. Will be listening via AtBat – go nats!!

    • ManassasNatsFan

      Travel safe

  • ManassasNatsFan

    Play ball.

    Re: Lobaton vs Teheran

    a) small sample size? (Lobaton is, after all, batting .200 overall)

    b) Ramos has been hitting the cover off the ball lately — including to center and right (see, e.g., last night)

  • NatsFan2005

At least MW included Lobaton in the line-up. I hope CRob has a good game. Would like to see Espi start in LF.

  • virginiascopist

I wonder if MW entertained the thought of moving Teheran’s nemesis, Lobaton, up in the lineup.

Also, in defense of AJ Cole, yes, he did give up 9 runs in 2 innings in the infamous April 28 game; however:

    1) it was his first MLB start with the pressure of trying to stop a 6-game losing streak.
    2) 5 of those runs were unearned.

    • Ghost of Steve M.

I’m on Cole’s side. He made mechanical improvements.

Great point on moving Lobaton up a spot or 3.

      • We shall see

        • knoxvillenat

I just want a win. Don’t care where Lobaton bats, just want a win. GYFNG!

      • Section 222

Cole hasn’t shown much of anything at the MLB level yet. I remain unconvinced he’s part of the Nats’ future rotation. As a reliever, he’s expendable like most of them.

Fingers crossed for Roark. He really could use a good outing, and so could we.

        • agree.

        • Section 222

I should have said “fungible,” not expendable. Sorry A.J.

      • rayvil01

I’m hoping Cole gets an honest look.
Not going to project next year’s rotation. The last two Decembers brought Fister and Scherzer. No way to tell who’s in the rotation until February.
