Tonight’s game finished with win number 84 for the Washington Nationals as the 0-0 game turned to 3-0 in the bottom of the 8th on one swing by Bryce Harper where he pulled a three-run home run! All of this on a night when Trea Turner went 0-4.
Max Scherzer threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings as he left in a 0-0 game and labored through the latter innings as his pitch count grew over 100 pitches, and he finished with 117 pitches. Scherzer bettered his ERA down to 2.87 which is 4th best in the National League and 6th best in the Majors. Mark Melancon earned another save for his 40th of the season getting a quick 1-2-3 9th inning.
Bryce Harper, with his 3 RBIs tonight, has 80 RBIs on the season and with a hot finish could reach 100.
The Nationals are also at a season’s best 26 games over .500 (84-58) with just 20 games remaining in the regular season.

We recently upgraded our comment system to improve reliability, performance, and long-term control, and we’re currently running both systems during the transition. This shift moves us away from an external service to a system we run and control directly—meaning we own the content and can continue improving it over time. We’ve also reduced the comment refresh delay from about 30 seconds to 10 seconds, making it much closer to real-time.
We understand there have been frustrations and increased feedback, and we’re actively working to improve things. What we ask is simple: use the system and give it a fair shot. If you run into issues, please submit them through the support form so we can track and fix them properly. Repeated complaints without details don’t help us solve problems—we appreciate your patience as we continue refining the experience.
