The Washington Nationals haven’t had any very long winning streaks this season. However, winning series is a good goal. Winning a 4-game series against a division rival, New York Mets, would be incredible if the Nats could accomplish that.
A little tweak to the lineup has the struggling Nasim Nunez on the bench. He made a baserunning mistake yesterday and was called out for obstruction. But he is also back to swinging long and putting the ball in the air and/or striking out.
Tonight’s game will be feature mid-90s temperatures. The starters are Jake Irvin for the Nats and Christian Scott for the Mets. The Mets look to be in a tight spot in their bullpen as Sean Manaea threw 57 pitches yesterday. The only other lefty in their bullpen is Brooks Raley. That could give the Nats a big platoon advantage.
The Nats made no MLB roster adjustments. After Miles Mikolas was shoved yesterday and helped freshen up the bullpen, he was not DFA’d. The Nats only used Brad Lord for one inning, and Mitchell Parker and Andrew Alvarez give the Nats three legitimate long-men for Blake Butera‘s bullpen.
The FanGraphs WAR chart is accumulating data. The numbers are getting very large as the season is nearly one-third completed. The OAA defense stat is now giving us a picture of what the Nats have — and don’t have.
