Game #5 Small sample size fun with 1st Place numbers

The Washington Nationals are 2-games above .500 since June 30, 2021 at the time when Kyle Schwarber went down with a serious leg injury. The last time the Nats were 3-games above .500 was on July 5, 2019 and the team ripped off a nice 4-game win streak against Philadelphia. History is great, and the future can’t be predicted with enough clarity. Enjoy what you have!

The Phillies are coming off a rough weekend against the Texas Rangers, and the Nats crushed them last night to the point that the Phillies brought in a position player to pitch the 9th inning in a 13-2 game. The Nats just have to hope that the Phillies stay cold today and tomorrow. And in this game, the Phillies have an MLB debut of top prospect Andrew Painter. Then the Phillies are back to their top of the rotation on Wednesday with a lefty. Remember, Zack Wheeler is rehabbing in the minors after his TOS surgery last year.

For the Nats, they will go with PJ Poulin as an opener and at some point hand the ball to Zack Littell who did not have a full Spring Training to fully stretch out. We will see how this goes. With a day-off on Thursday, the Nats might have to push a little harder on their bullpen.

Manager Blake Butera used Brad Lord as his long-man and Cole Henry most likely gets a rest day. Every other pitcher should be available.
