Game #157 Nats go for doubleheader sweep

The Washington Nationals picked up a much needed win in this first game of this doubleheader to get to 69-wins on the season and tie the mark the team had in 2010. There is significance to that because then-owner, Ted Lerner, expanded payroll after the season and signed Jayson Werth. Of course with six more games to go, the Nats are looking to win 75 games.

The Nats won the afternoon start today with Jackson Rutledge on the mound. He went 5.0 innings giving up just one-run and earned this win. In his past two starts, he has a 2.38 ERA. Quite the bounceback outings after a debut that did not go well, and because of that, Rutledge started with a double-digit ERA that he has whittled down to 6.00. He leapfrogged Joan Adon in the team ERA standings, and if Adon can throw a gem he will leapfrog Rutledge. That is obviously the hope.

“[Jackson Rutledge] will make another start if everything goes well.
