Game #153 Nats are going for a series win

The Washington Nationals have another chance for a series win, and they kind of need this one with ten games remaining to get to 70+ wins. Josiah Gray just needs to follow what Jackson Rutledge accomplished yesterday — and be very careful pitching to Luis Robert.

Can anyone figure out why Jacob Young has 180 degree stats between road and home starts? If you know, let us know. IYKYK

Manager Dave Martinez once again pushed the right buttons to steal another start. With pinch-hits from Carter Kieboom and Joey Meneses hitting the decisive 3-run homer, the Nats evened this series last night.

After today’s game, there are just 9-games remaining in this 2023 regular season. The Atlanta Braves will arrive tonight for a 4-game Thursday-to-Sunday series, and the Nats’ manager announced in the pre-game that they are skipping Trevor Williams‘ next start. For now, Sunday looks to be a callup like DJ Herz or a bullpen game with Cory Abbott or Thaddeus Ward. Next week, the Nats have two days-off on Monday and Thursday. The team will most likely add Herz to the 40-man roster in the offseason as a Rule-5 player, so maybe they call him up now.

“I want to bump [Trevor Williams] back. … I spoke to him, and he wants to finish the year off. I thought the best thing was to skip him one, and then let him have one more.”

“His velo is down a little bit. I talked to him, and he said it has been a long year. But he’s really trying to push himself because he understands the importance of pushing himself this year for next year. The more he can push his body through this year. He knows what he has to do over the winter to get through it next year.
